Avoid the Fast Food Drive-Through for a Better You

You have decided it is time for a change of pace. You are sick of being overweight. You no longer want those extra pounds hanging around your body or staring back at you in the mirror. So what do you do? You may decide to start a diet. Perhaps join a gym or start going to the one you signed up for but have not got around to visiting. Or maybe joining a weight loss group is your preference. However, whatever it is you decide your path will be, take my advice and be wary of the fast food drive-thru.

Fast food restaurants such as McDonalds and Wendy's serve mostly cheap food that is high in calories, fat and cholesterol. Fast food restaurants are the staple for greasy hamburgers, fried chicken, oily French fries and serving it at low cost. The dollar menu has derailed many a diets in my past making the avoidance of the drive-thru top priority when out on the road. This article will highlight some of the ways I have handled the fast food drive-thru pangs while en-route.

Planning ahead

I drive both to work and school. Depending on the situation that awaits my arrival can stress me before I get there. Stress for me in the past has meant "it's time to eat" and I would stop at the nearest fast food drive-thru for a road snack. This is no more since I have planned ahead the routes that do not take me near the temptation. Even if I have to leave home a little earlier it is okay as long as I am getting from point A to point B without the unnecessary pit-stops.

Handy Snacks

Some of us who have had weight troubles eat just for the sake of eating. This further makes the fast food drive-thru dangerous when trying to kick the habit. To help me to drive past the McDonald's chicken nugget, I keep a box of healthy snacks readily available in the car for the times I have the need to chew.

Healthy alternatives

In most cases it is true that healthy food is pricier than non-healthy food. However, there are some items that you can opt for if you cannot fight the gravitational pull of the car towards the fast food drive-thru. McDonald's has the grilled chicken snack wraps which are a good alternative to anything McDonald's has that is fried. Wendy also has a couple of items that are the best when it comes to healthy alternatives for a cheap quick food pick up. At Wendy's you can get side salads and baked potatoes at low prices. It is a limited selection so maybe Subway should consider opening up a drive-thru service!

The convenience of not having to get out of the car makes places like McDonalds and Wendy's difficult to avoid when you get the munchies. It took some time for me to kick the habit but I am glad I did. I feel less groggy and happier since I took off some weight.
