Avoid Field Trial Dog Food

Chen Salis
Last week I needed to pick up food for my dogs and I was extremely financially embarrassed at the time. I had very limited funds and needed to guarantee that my dogs could eat until I got my paycheck. I knew that my choices would be very limited for the budget I had for dog food. I asked a friend who is always broke what brand she purchases when she can't afford to spend much for dog food. She recommended the Field Trial bites and bones brand of dog food that is available at Family Dollar Stores.

I frequently shop at Family Dollar and have had fairly impressive results with their store brand products, when considering the overall experience. I stopped by to purchase a small bag of dog food that I could mix in with what they had remaining of their regular brand of food. I easily located the yellow bag of Field Trial bites and bones brand of 'premium' dog food. For $2.65 I got a 6.25 pound of dog food. The bag states this brand can be compared to the national brand of dog food. My dogs like Kibbles n Bits, so I hoped they would like this brand of food also.

My dogs did not mind eating Field Trial bites and bones, they are not picky about their dog food and honestly I think they would eat whatever I put before them. They ate the Field Trial bones and bites brand of so called premium dog food for 2 days, mixed in with their normal food when I noticed that when they defecated, it did not look normal in color or consistency. I also began to notice that one of my dogs had developed a most unpleasant scent, he smelled like a unwashed old man. I consulted my boyfriend, and he had noticed the same things. It was then that I decided to immediately dispose of the remaining food mixture and spend my remaining funds on a better quality of dog food. I love my dogs, and they deserve nothing but the best. No matter how tight my funds are, I will not purchase Field Trial Bites and Bones again. I would also not recommend this dog food product to other pet owners, personally. I don't think this is a healthy food, and no matter how inexpensive it is, it is not worth buying in my opinion.

I have been feeding my fox dogs and my lab for years with all different types and I can tell you that my dogs love the Field Trial Dog Food you can buy for 2.00 at Dollar General. I dont know why your dogs have had a problem with it but my dogs gain good weight my lab empties her bowl everytime and has great bowel movements. SO maybe its how you are feeding them. I have tried store brand purina, alpo, kibbles and bits, pedigree, iams, and the only once comparable to Field Trial Dog Food is Sportsman Pride. Sorry you all had bad time with it!

In my experience it is never a good idea to purchase cheap dog food brands such as this one... My dogs mean too much to me to risk their health and well being to save a little money.
