Avoid the NutriSystem Chocolate Cake

Candice Cain
When I was a little girl, I had an E-Z Bake Oven, which I loved. I would make all sorts of cookies and cakes in it, and share it with my friends and sister. I loved opening the little mixes, adding water, and letting it bake in my oven. So, when I saw the envelope of Chocolate Cake Mix with my NutriSystem order, I got so excited. It was like revisiting my childhood! I couldn't wait to try it.

After my NutriSystem dinner, I prepared the Chocolate Cake Mix exactly as instructed:

1. Combine 2 ounces tap water with contents of one package; stir thoroughly.
2. Pour the batter into a microwave-safe container such as a 2 ounce ramekin or small plasticware.
3. Microwave on HIGH (100% Power) for 1 minute; carefully remove from microwave and allow to cool for 5 minutes. Enjoy!

I had an 8 oz. glass of skim milk all ready to go as I waited for my chocolate cake to finish. I waited the mandatory 5 minutes, got the ramekin with the cake in it, grabbed my glass of milk, and headed to the couch to watch the end of Thank God You're Here. I took a bite, and thought to myself, "Wow, this doesn't have any flavor." It smelled like chocolate cake; it just didn't taste like chocolate cake.

So, I let it sit for another minute before trying it again. I dove a little deeper into the cake and noticed some melted chocolate chips. I took another bite, and I nearly gagged. I couldn't believe how downright awful this cake was. First of all, it tasted like artificial sweetener. Secondly, it had the consistency of a bread pudding. Third, it left an awful taste in my mouth. It was just gross.

This is the first time that I threw almost an entire dessert out. It was so bad, I fully plan on sending back the other enveloped of Microwavable Chocolate Cake Mix that I may have. After eating even a little bit of this horrid "cake", I've got a headache and my stomach hurts. Well, that's one way for stopping someone like me from eating chocolate cake, I suppose.

If you are planning to or already participate in the NutriSystem Program and have not yet tasted the Microwavable Chocolate Cake Mix, do yourself a favor and don't bother ordering it. It is a major disappointment, and NutriSystem has some other desserts that are really terrific. This just isn't one of them.
