Fragrance
I really liked the mild fragrances of Avon's Bath Time Body Paints. The Candy Apple and Cotton Candy scents were nice but not overpowering. They never smelled like the Southside Virginia fairgrounds, and the scent had all but faded after they dried off and put on their pajamas.
Paint Colors
The actual color of the Bath Time Body Paints can be a bit deceiving.
The Cotton Candy Paint has a pink plastic top and as the top suggests, the paint is also pink. However, the Candy Apple paint has a bright red top, while the paint inside is actually green.
This is my main pet peeve with these products as consumers shopping for paint generally always associate the color of the plastic top as indicating the contents of the paint. For example, if I need a can of red spray paint then I would pick out a can of spray paint with a red plastic top. I wouldn't pick out a red can and then expect it to have green paint. That's certainly kind of silly.
I checked on the Avon website and the product photo does show what color paint comes in each fragrance. However, in the Avon catalog that I viewed this is not the case. If selecting a Bath Time Body Paint strictly by the color of the paint top, you might be disappointed. Or, if giving these Bath Time Body Paints as gifts you may want to mention to the recipient what color it is so little ones aren't disappointed.
Let me explain...
My 3-year-old received Candy Apple as a gift and he was eagerly expecting to paint his entire body to look exactly like the Red Hulk figurine that he also got for Christmas. When he opened the paint bottle top and saw that the paint inside was green, he was very confused and started crying. He was more than a little disappointed with his green Candy Apply paint until I explained how great it was that he could now paint himself to look like the Green Incredible Hulk! So, quick-thinking mom and the fact that the Green Hulk is pretty similar to the Red Hulk luckily saved the night! I'm sure other parents may have had a tougher dilemma on their hands than I did if something similar had happened with their little ones.
But if you have little ones that want to paint themselves to look like Hulk, Dinosaurs, Aliens, or the Green Power Ranger, then they will certainly love Candy Apple!
Paint Bottle
The paint bottles are easy to hold and easy to apply. The plastic tops are similar in size to child's teacups so this was an added bonus for my boys. They really enjoyed pretending they were using the plastic tops as cups in the tub too.
While certainly a clever design, my only concern with the bottle would be for families who use Avon roll-on deodorants other roll-on antiperspirants. The body paints roll-on application is much the same as a roll-on deodorant, with the roller ball and everything.
Since our family does not use roll-on deodorants this really didn't concern me. However, for other families who use other roll-on deodorants or similar products that should be kept away from small children, this may not be a product you want in your bathroom. If you think there's even the smallest chance your child might accidentally mistaken your favorite roll-on for this fun tub time paint, than it may not be for you. Since I'll bet your deodorant is more expensive than these paints, that may be another factor that weighs in on your decision.
Paint Texture and Color
Other online reviewers have noted that the paint was a little runny. I agree, but this certainly didn't detract from the fun my children were having. The only thing both of my children complained about was that the pink color (Cotton Candy) was too light and they couldn't see it. Both unanimously agreed that they wanted to paint with the green (Candy Apple).
While some may argue they don't know any boy who would want to play with pink to begin with, I didn't feel this was the issue. The green (Candy Apple) appeared at least five times darker than the pink (Cotton Candy).
For additional fun, stick with the darker colors instead of the light.
Number of Uses
Each bottle stood up to a generous 4-5 baths in our household. Considering both of my boys painted until their hearts content all over each other, the walls, and the tub, I was pleased and impressed with the value.
Price
Avon offers the Bath Time Body Paints for $1.99 each.
With such a sweet little price, we'll definitely be restocking on these great Avon products at least in Candy Apple (green). We also intend to try Bubble Gum (aqua blue) next!
Note: Avon Bath Time Body Paints are also available in Bubble Gum and Coconut Custard.
