Her New Album
"Goodbye Lullaby" is Lavigne's fourth album and will be the first album she has released since her divorce from Sum 41 frontman Deryk Whibley. The album is set for a March 8th, 2011, release and will feature her new single "What The Hell" and "Goodbye," which she deems as the most venerable song she has ever written. Even though "What The Hell" is an up tempo pop song, Lavigne says that all of the other songs on the album will be more raw and a little deeper.
Past Albums
The 26-year old Lavigne had incredible success with her first three albums. Her first album, "Let Go" was released in 2002 went four-times platinum. Sales for the album have totaled over 16 million copies. Two years later, she followed up with her second album, "Under My Skin" which went on to sell over 10 million copies. Her third album, "The Next Best Thing" went on sale April 17th, 2007. It didn't have quite as much success as her first two, but has pushed her over 30 million albums sold worldwide.
What She Has Been Up To
By the time Avril Lavigne's new album goes on sale, it will have been just one month shy of four years since her last album. So did she really work on this new album for four years? Of course not. The obvious response as to why so long in between albums would be Lavigne was married. At first thought, one would just think that her and her now ex-hubby Deryk Whibley were just living up married life after their 2006 wedding. That could very well be a large part as to why Lavigne took some time between albums, but to say that was the full reason would mean that she wasn't working on much else during the past few years. It is actually quite the opposite. The punk pop icon has kept herself plenty busy with ventures that include launching the clothing line Abbey Dawn and releasing her first perfume fragrance, Black Star. Her most recent accomplishment came just a couple of months ago when she started her charity, "The Avril Lavigne Foundation."
