Award Show Whiners: When Celebrities Turn into Sore Losers (Kanye West and Faith Hill)

Timothy Guy
Losing with dignity is so last year, the newest fad with celebrities is perfecting the art of being a sore loser.

Within a span of a week there have been two award show embarrassments; one with Kayne West at the MTV Europe Video Music Awards and then with Faith Hill at the Country Music Awards.

West, who lost the Best Video award, took the stage and interrupting the winner's acceptance speech. He cursed and complained that his video should have won because it "cost a million dollars, had Pam Anderson in it and had me jumping across canyons."

Wow, let's break that statement down shall we?

He claims his video for the song "Touch the Sky" cost one million dollars. One, you should never brag about how much something costs... it's tacky. Two, did they pay Anderson $999,000 to be in it? There is, by no means, anything spectacular in the video to warrant the $1 million dollar price tag.

You also shouldn't brag about having Anderson, of "Baywatch" fame, in your video. Everyone knows there is only one famous video starring Anderson and it's not yours Kayne.

Jumping across canyons, eh?

You know who also jumps across canyons? The Hulk.

And you sir are no Incredible Hulk.

The best part was West telling the audience "If I don't win, then the awards show loses credibility."

Funny, but wrong again. The award show lost credibility because someone in the control booth turned your microphone on.

It's one thing for West to act like this, he has acted like a baby before. But when Faith Hill lost in on camera, people were shocked.

Hill is known for being warm and friendly. She has a family and is always smiling.

Just don't let her lose to someone from "American Idol."

As with most award shows, before they announce the winners they have the cameras on all of the nominees... to catch the winner's reaction.

Of course it also catches the loser's reactions too.

When Carrie Underwood won, Hill threw up her arms and mouthed "What?!"

In a statement to the press it said "The idea that I would act disrespectful towards a fellow musician is unimaginable to me." It also goes on to say that she didn't know the camera was on her.

Riiiiiiiight.

I wouldn't notice a person holding a big camera pointed right at me either.

Later she said it was a joke and she was playing around. So funny, someone's going to get a sitcom soon.

Bottom line, you're pissed you lost to an American Idol and got caught.

So why do people like West and Hill react this way?

Is it a sense of entitlement?

Does it say something about today's society that we just expect to always win?

It does make great news though.

I stopped watching music award shows myself, except for occasionaly the CMAs, simply because the lack of talent.Yeah true Faith Hill is a good singer and didn't come from American Idol.Carrie Underwood hasn't been around that long and already won a major award ;also talented. The idea here is when Faith come along , who is to say she didn't knock out major contenders who had been around a while herself?Faith has nothing to feel bad about, still. It does seem the business is focusing a lot on youth lately. No comment on West cause Im not into that kind of music.Better luck next time,I suppose.

Leena has made a good point. I do think that faith was joking and no harm was intended... but it upstage the true winner and that wasn't cool.

    Very good article.

I am dissapointed with this trend and believe that Americans will soon lose their global reputation as classy, conscientious, humble people.

Great article. Sad we give these folks such high podiums to begin with. Ah well, not everything can be the West Wing :)

another reason society is going down the tubes... It just goes to show that you can be a millionaire and still be a first class "sore loser."
