Awards Season Beauty Predictions

Yes, it's true. The holidays are over and another Awards Season is upon us. It seems our calendars are becoming the hottest seats in town. Year after year, however, the red carpet is the much anticipated, much talked about, and perhaps one of the most controversial events of the year. What did he wear? Who chose that clutch? And what on earth did she put in her hair? Yes, the red carpet is ready, and so are the spectators, instigators, and gossip rags. My predictions this year? SAFE.

Over the past few years we've seen a myriad of styles, cuts, and color on the red carpet, giving way to freedom of expression. Nowadays, hair is not so perfectly coiffed and make-up is often not as dramatic. Soft, natural looks have been the way to go of late, and my guess is that we'll see more of the same this year on the red carpet. While fashion is not my area of expertise, my guess for hair & make-up might go something like this.

Hair: Look for rich colors, dimensional tones and shimmering results on the red carpet. Free flowing "come touch me" hair will be the order for the season and longer styles will adorn neck and shoulders in a soft, feminine manner. The loose tousled curl will certainly take center stage as it has done over the past few years (this look can be achieved with a large barrel curling iron) and shorter styles (what I call helmet hair) will not be as accentuated.

Make-up: Look for soft tones, natural hues and slight kisses of sunlight on the cheeks and decollete area. Soft shimmers may fall on the shoulder area (but not too shimmery) to give skin a soft dewy look. Look for dramatic eyes and subtle lips, or subtle eye and dramatic lip combinations.

Make no mistake about it, salons and beauty boutiques are in full swing gearing up for this holiday season and appointments book up just as quickly as the hottest seat in town.
