Awesome: The Best Word to Describe Chuck

Why NBC Must Renew This Show

Eliza Wynn
The season finale of Chuck aired on April 27, 2009. I imagine that just about everyone with a Twitter account knows that, judging by the rapid-fire tweeting going on all day. Chuck fans were spreading the word about the campaign to save Chuck by going straight to Subway, a major sponsor of the show. The fans were trying to make it clear that they aren't giving up without a fight. Wait. Make that "we aren't giving up without a fight." That's right. I'm a Chuck fan and proud of it. By the time I'd finished watching the second season finale, all I could think was that it was awesome. Well, actually, I did have one more thought: how could NBC even consider canceling this show?

Chuck is the best thing on TV. It's the series that has it all: action, adventure, romance, humor, and drama. The entertainment value is through the roof. When I found out that Chuck's future was in danger, I couldn't believe it. Well, yes I could. The networks do this to me all the time. Still, I really thought Chuck was a shoo-in for renewal. Why wouldn't it be?

The writing is terrific. The acting is superb. The casting was phenomenal. Each actor is the perfect choice for the role he or she plays. Zachary Levi is Chuck Bartowski. Adam Morgan is John Casey. Yvonne Strahovski is Sarah Walker. And so on. There is not one single miscast character, and the chemistry among the cast members is undeniable.

I've watched Chuck since its premiere and have never missed an episode. Chuck is the only show that has me quite literally sitting on the edge of my seat week after week; I see my husband doing this as well. It's the only one that makes me laugh out loud. Because I'm easily distracted by the slightest noise or motion, I like total quiet when I watch my shows so that I don't miss anything. With Chuck, I just can't help myself. Every week, something surprises and tickles me so much that I burst out laughing. Usually, it has to do with Chuck or Casey. Casey has some of the best lines I've ever heard anywhere, and Adam Baldwin's delivery is pure perfection. For the most recent examples, think about his reactions to "the Morgan" (from "Chuck versus the First Kill") and to Chuck's newest ability ("Chuck versus the Ring"). My husband and I both laugh and cheer throughout each episode. No other show has this effect on either of us, let alone both of us.

I want to know--I need to know--whether Chuck will finally get the girl. Will he and Sarah be together? How long will it take for that to happen? Will Devon aka Captain Awesome be able to keep Chuck's secret? Will Ellie ever stop treating Chuck like a child? Will Morgan stay in town? Will he and Anna stay together? Will Morgan expose Emmett to corporate for the rat he is? Will Big Mike forgive Morgan for what he believes was a betrayal? Will Big Mike get his old job back? Will Casey recruit Anna? (Remember that he wanted a background check after seeing her moves.) Will Chuck and Ellie's dad stick around? Will Chuck go back to work at the Buy More? Who were those non-Fulcrum agents with? And most importantly, how could NBC even consider canceling this show?

These are just a few of the questions we all need answers to. We need a third season of Chuck. Well, we really need more, but we'll settle for baby steps. Let's start with firm commitment for a third season.

There have been conflicting reports on when the decision will be made. NBC released a partial schedule and said they'll figure out the rest by May 19.

Hi Eliza - I hadn't heard that Chuck might not get picked up for another season. My hubby likes this show as well.
