Directions for Awesome Italian Christmas Cookies

1
Cream together the Eggs, Milk, Vanilla, Sugar and Shortening until smooth and frothy in a large mixing bowl.
2
Combine the Baking Soda, Baking Powder, sugar and flour together in a separate bowl. When combined, Add to the moist ingredients slowly, mixing continuously as you do.
3
Mix the dough gently by hand until you have a firm dough, but not so long that it becomes tough.
4
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and grease several cookie sheets.
5
Roll out chunks of the dough into 3/4-inch rods that are approximately six inches long. Double the rod over itself and twist it together, and then place on the greased cookie sheet.
6
Bake for 15-20 minutes, keeping an eye on the Italian cookies so that they don't burn on their tops. Allow them to cool before icing and decorating.
Tip
These Italian cookies are great with coffee or hot chocolate! Add a little orange zest to the icing to really grab your guest's attention.
