These are people who worked hard to make the 60's and 70's as disrupted and nation-destroying as it was: they were tightly involved in the Chicago riots surrounding the 68' Democratic Convention and the Days of Rage riots the following summer. Eventually, the Black Liberation Army split from the group stating that white leaders like Ayers refused to allow them input into activities that ostensibly were geared toward gaining power for blacks. Ayers and Dorhn escaped long prison sentences due to FBI illegal wiretaps and their families' money-as did several other prominent Weathermen. Both owe their positions at University of Illinois and Northwestern University Law School respectively to Ayer's father, Thomas G. Ayers, former chief executive of Commonwealth Edison. Because Dorhn was convicted and spent a short period in prison, she cannot be admitted to the Bar due to her felony so instead teaches Law at Northwestern U. Ayers has been consulting with Hugo Chavez to reform the education system of his new socialist dictatorship. For evidence directly from the horse's mouth of the ideology they promoted, check out the booklet, Prairie Fire' written by Ayers, Dorhn and others in 1974 which they claim as their Communist Manifesto, at http://www.zombietime.com/prairie_fire/.
The most long-lasting damage caused by this bunch of anti-American radicals, besides the subversion of the justice system due to their parent's money is that the majority of the major players ended up in the education field. Who are they? Communist Party (Marxist-Leninist) (CPML) chairman and Professor of Education, Mike Klonsky, leader of the SDS split-off Revolutionary youth Movement and founder of the Small Schools Workshop of Chicago-big recipient of Annenberg Challenge dollars. Jeff Jones, predictably, is an environmentalist and political consultant, and Mark Rudd is now a teacher. All unrepentant and proud of their communist ideologies, these are the people who are teaching our children AND our teachers. Their influence and that of many more of their less-famous compatriots are what's turning the educational system in the United States into a hotbed of socialist activism-true knowledge be dammed!
A look into the history and results of the Chicago Annenberg Challenge clarifies exactly what the ideology is: radicalism. (Side-note: the Chicago Annenberg Challenge was shut down because it showed absolutely NO improvement in academic objectives). Ayers writes books that are used to educate our teachers; is it any wonder we have schools that see it more their job to change social mores, teach revisionist history and instill American white guilt than to educate in the sciences?
Do we need to welcome Ayers back to Ann Arbor like a long-lost and somewhat recalcitrant wayward son? Not only no, but Hell, No! In fact, we should take a lesson from our neighbors to the north: Canada refused him entry this month due to his terrorist history. Perhaps, U of M needs a reminder that they are a tax-supported entity with a Charter to support higher ideals for the whole of society-NOT repeat the errors they made in the 60's that spawned this escapee from Communist hell.
