Ayurvedic Approach to Boost Your Energy Levels

DrSri
As per Ayurveda, seven factors that affect your energy levels during the day, include nutrition, digestion, sleep, exercise, stress, detoxification and routine. By paying proper attention to all these seven factors, one can remain energetic and vigorous throughout the day.

Nutrition
How energetic you feel during the day and how well your mind and body perform depends on what you eat. Nourishing, cooked and balanced meals with foods suited to your mind/body type with appropriate spices are highly recommended. Processed foods are not nutritious, add toxins to your system and make you feel dull.

Digestion
In order to completely nourish all your seven tissues, good digestion is essential. It's a matter of when you eat and how you eat. Ideally eat when you are hungry and when your digestive 'fire' (agni) is strongest (midday). Incomplete digestion produces digestive toxins (called ama) that accumulate in your system and which Ayurveda considers to be responsible for many chronic diseases, such as heart disease, arthritis and asthma.

Sleep
A light meal early in the evening is easier to digest and helps you sleep better and wake more refreshed. Relaxing activity after 7 pm, bed by 10 pm and up by 6 pm is also recommended and early rising is especially good if you often feel lethargic in the morning. One should aim for minimum of 7-8 hours of sleep in a day. Quality of sleep is more important than the quantity.

Exercise
Balance your doshas, maintain natural weight and clear away toxins with regular morning exercise suited to your mind/body type. Regular exercise works the best. Combining Yogasana, pranayama along with light aerobic exercise is recommended, since Yoga helps you to strengthen not only your inner organs, but also your mind.

Stress
Stress reduction clears the mind, nourishes the brain, helps the body work more efficiently and settles the emotions. The best technique for stress reduction is Transcendental Meditation (TM). It's the world's most effective and best-researched meditation technique and widely used in schools and companies around the world to reduce classroom and workplace stress. Yogasana and Pranayama also help.

Detoxification
According to Ayurvedic principles, there are three ways to detox: diet and lifestyle, herbal cleansing and purification treatment. Triphala supplement helps gently cleanse the digestive tract of toxins all year round and Ayurvedic detoxification technique like Panchakarma treatment will quickly clear your build-up of toxins so you feel rested and revitalized.

Routine
In order to maximize your natural reserves of energy and minimize the effects of ageing, one should follow a healthy daily routine. A healthy daily routine includes eating at the right time, sleeping at the right time, the right amount of exercise at the right time and maintaining a healthy work/life balance.
