According to Ayurveda, Vata is the biological force that recognizes and stimulates all the bodily activities, and is responsible for the functional state of mind. Shukradhatu is the finest tissue element having multiple functional identities, and it represents various characteristics of manliness. Harsha (pleasure), Dhairya (control over anxiety and fear), Cyavana (optimal timed ejaculation) and Preeti (satisfaction) are the functions of shukra related to sexual act. The involvement of Vata and Shukra should be taken into account while planning the management of Shukragatavata with clinical presentation as premature ejaculation.
The Ayurvedic line of treatment for premature ejaculation is based on vrishya (spermiotropic), balya (strenghtening), vatahara (alleviates vata), medhya (psychotropic) and shukrasthambaka (effective control of ejaculation) properties.
Ayurvedic herbs having vrishya properties include Shatapushpa (Anethum sowa), Akarakaraba root (Anacyclus pyrethrum), Pippali (Piper Longum) and Shankapushpi (Convolvulus pluricaulis).
Akarakarabhadi Yoga is an Ayurvedic preparation containing ten herbs, and is widely used by Ayurvedic physicians to treat premature ejaculation. The herbs include Akarakarabha (root), Jatiphala (fruit), Kumkuma (anthers), Parseekayavani (seed), Khaskhas beeja (seed), Kapikacchu beeja (seed), Jatamansi (root), Yashtimadhu (root), Gokhshura (fruits), Bhallatakaphalamajja (endocarp). The combination of these potent herbs give Akarakarabhadi Yoga all five properties required for effective control of premature ejaculation such as vrishya, balya, vatahara, medhya and shukrashtambaka.
Madhutailika Yapanabasti, a therapeutic modification of basti (medicated enema used in Panchakarma), is very effective in management of premature ejaculation without any complicatons or restrictions. It consists of decoction of Erandamoola mixed with honey, Sesame oil, fine paste of Shatapushpa ans Rock salt. This Basti has direct effect upon Vata, especially Apanavata, which is responsible for ejaculation.
Sexual debilities including premature ejaculation can also be controlled by the practice of Yoga. The Yoga postures recommended for premature ejaculation are Sarvangasana (Shoulder Stand Posture), Dhanurasana (Bow Posture), Halasana (Plough Posture), Bhadrasana (Butterfly Posture), Mayurasana (Peacock Posture), Paschimottasana (Back Stretching Posture), Bhujangasana (Snake Posture).
