The Ayurvedic diet is divided into 3 categories, called Doshas, and are keys to our individual nature. The list of foods in this article are favored for the Kapha Dosha. According to Ayurvedic medicine, which comes from ancient Vedic knowledge, eating according to your dosha is an excellent way to maintain health.
Favored Kapha Diet Foods
Kapha Diet Fruits: Apples, apricots, berries, cherries, cranberries, figs (dry), green papaya in moderation, mango, peaches, pears, persimmons, pomegranate, prunes, raisins and strawberries in moderation.
Kapha Diet Vegetables: Arugula, asparagus, beet greens, beets bell pepper, broccoli, brussel sprouts, burdock root, cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, celery, collard greens, fresh corn, eggplant, fennel, garlic, green beans, horseradish, Jerusalem artichoke, Jicama, kale, leafy greens, leeks, lettuce, mushrooms, okra, parsley, peas, red peppers, white potato, radish, sprouts, summer squash, sun dried tomato in moderation tapioca, and watercress.
Kapha Diet Grains: Amaranth in moderation, barley, buckwheat, corn, couscous, millet, oat bran, dry oats, quinoa, rice in moderation if it's basmati, rice cakes in moderation, rye and wheat bran in moderation.
Kapha Diet Legumes: Aduki beans, black beans, black-eyed peas, chickpeas, lima beans, mung beans, navy beans, pinto beans, red lentils, soy milk (hot) in moderation, split peas, cooked tofu in moderation, white beans and yellow mung beans.
Kapha Diet Dairy: Ghee in moderation, goat's milk and diluted yogurt.
Kapha Diet Meat: White chicken, eggs in moderation, freshwater fish, shrimp, white turkey and venison.
Kapha Diet Nuts: Soaked and peeled almonds in moderation.
Kapha Diet Seeds: Flax in moderation, popcorn (no butter or salt), psyllium and pumpkin in moderation and sunflower.
Kapha Diet Oils: All in moderation: Almond, canola, corn, flax, ghee and sunflower.
Kapha Diet Sweeteners: Fruit juice concentrate (esp. apple and pear), honey (esp. raw) and stevia.
Kapha Diet Beverages: Aloe vera juice, apple juice, apricot juice, berry juice, caffeine in moderation, carob, carrot juice, cherry juice, grape juice in moderation, mango juice, mixed vegetable juice, peach nectar, soy milk if warm and esp. spicy)
