Babe Ruth and the World Series

Nobody was Better Than the Babe in the World Series

Joe Dorish
Babe Ruth is the greatest World Series performer of all time. Over his 22 year major league baseball career that lasted from 1914 to 1935 Babe Ruth played in 10 World Series. The teams Ruth played on went 7-3 over those 10 World Series.

World Series Records of Teams Babe Ruth Played On

Boston Red Sox

While a member of the Boston Red Sox from 1914-1919 Babe Ruth played in three World Series - 1915, 1916 and 1918. The Boston Red Sox won all three World Series with Babe Ruth and then did not win another World Series for 86 years until 2004.

New York Yankees

While a member of the New York Yankees from 1920-1934 Babe Ruth played in 7 World Series - 1921-1923, 1926-1928 and 1932. The New York Yankees won four of those World Series - 1923, 1926, 1927 and 1932.

Babe Ruth Hitting Record in the World Series

Babe Ruth was a terrific hitter in the World Series and an even better hitter than he was during regular season play. In the World Series Babe Ruth scored a run 28.7% of the time he had an at bat, hit a home run 11.6% per at bat and drove in a run 25.6% of the time he had an at bat.

The only players who had over 100 World Series at bats who can even compare to the Babe are fellow New York Yankees players Lou Gehrig and Reggie Jackson but the next category is what separates Babe Ruth from all other World Series performers.

Babe Ruth Pitching Record in the World Series

Babe Ruth was a great pitcher and would almost certainly have made the Baseball Hall of Fame as a pitcher had he not switched to playing the outfield. But in his first three World Series playing for the Boston Red Sox Babe Ruth was primarily a pitcher and in 3 World Series starts he went 3-0 with a .87 ERA.

Babe Ruth's World Series pitching record includes a 14 inning complete game win in which he surrendered 1 run and a complete game shutout.

Babe Ruth Was the Greatest World Series Player of All Time

While Lou Gehrig and Reggie Jackson were close to the Babe as hitters in World Series play they both fall a bit short of what Babe Ruth accomplished with the bat. Add in the fact that Babe Ruth also went 3-0 as a starting pitcher in the World Series with a .87 ERA and no player has ever accomplished anything close to what Babe Ruth did in the World Series.

Babe Ruth is the greatest World Series Performer of all time.
