Babe's Chicken Dinner House is the Best Family Style Restaurant in Dallas/Fort Worth

Babe's Chicken Dinner House is probably not one of the most well known establishments in the Dallas/Forth Worth metroplex. However, for those who have ever eaten in one of the several locations in the area, you will always hear "bring a big appetite."

Babe's specializes in down home cooking. Surprisingly, you might think that there is no way a restaurant that has as many customers and keeps regular restaurant hours could possibly be able to cook a fresh creamed corn and tons of green beans and still be able to have the food taste great. I am not sure how they do it, but they do it well.

Some unfamiliar with the term "family style" will wonder what exactly that means. For a family style restaurant, you serve yourself as if you were in your own dining room for a meal. Well sort of. For Babe's you have the choice to pick one of several meats. Some locations have different menu items available. The meats available at all locations are Fried Chicken, Chicken Fried Steak, Chicken Tenders, Smothered Chicken, Fried Catfish, and Pot Roast. In addition, the Garland location also offers Ribs. However, the Roanoke location does not offer Fried Catfish. Now here is the best part. You receive large bowls to your table with the vegetables, and you eat as many of the veggies as you can. The vegetables on the menu are Mashed Potatoes, Cream Gravy, Tossed Salad, Green Beans, and Grandma's Corn. They also provide you with Homemade Biscuits with plenty of Honey and Molasses to drizzle over them. The Garland location also has another vegetable that changes daily. Sometimes it is Pinto Beans, sometimes Cabbage, and sometimes Navy Beans.

Do not be afraid to ask your waitperson for more of whichever vegetable you feel you would like more. My favorite thing to eat is Grandma's corn. This is something very different from anything that you can get in a can and it does indeed taste like your grandma made it.

The restaurant is a very family friendly place. There is a kid's menu available as well.

As for prices, you get a lot for the money. Meals are $10.99, meals with Catfish are $11.99, and meals with Ribs are $12.99. If you choose to go with Vegetables only or Meat only, the price is $6.49. If you are not able to finish your meat, you will be provided with a to-go bag, to take your meat home. However, you have to get as many of the vegetables that you would like while sitting at the table, as you are not allowed to take them with you.

Their desserts are pretty good as well. The desserts are Chocolate Meringue Pie, Lemon Meringue Pie, Coconut Meringue Pie, Banana Pudding, Pineapple Upside-down Cake, and Peach Cobbler.
