It was really nice of my doctor to inform me that babies, even toddlers are aware of the quantity of food they require to consume to grow. Many parents tend to be worried that their child are not having enough nutrition, if you fall into this category, you can provide your little one with a multivitamin to make certain steady progress and growth. However, you must remember to consult your doctor before giving your child any supplements. Your baby might have sufficient vitamins from their daily food intake, if you are to give them excess fat-soluble vitamin, it could store up in their body and become toxic to them instead. It is better to be safe than sorry, so do remember to consult your doctor before providing your child with supplements.
First rule at hand, allow your child to have the food he/she desires for. There are babies who are very fussy when it comes to food, they will reject all except one. If this happens, provide the baby with buns or apple or whatsoever the food he/she desires then. For instance, my son would cry for a ham sandwich this week and totally reject it the following week. I will not force him to eat what he does not want. Just ensure that your baby is getting as much nutrient as you possibly can insert into that one particular food. I would add in peaches or apricots, fruits that my son likes, into a wheat bread when he wishes to eat bread. Of course, I do not show him the process of adding in the fruits as he might not want those in his bread. Although your baby may cry for certain food at times, try to change the baby's menu when they are not being fussy. Babies can be sick and tired of the usual food every day. Alter the menu and you will find your child eating more.
Secondly, sneak in food whenever you possible can into your baby's food! Your baby will not be oblige to eat something that he or she does not want to even if you spend the whole day trying to trick the little one into eating. Add in food to the meal of the day without your child knowing, it is absolutely right to encourage your child to try novel food in this way. You will be surprise at how effective this method will be. Your child would grow to accept and enjoy various different foods and it also enhances the nutrition value of your baby's diet. Take for instance your child would only eat buns. Spread jam or put cinnamon and sugar on it, add in some thin slices of banana or you could pour some honey on it too. Let us illustrate another scenario in which your little one loves cereal. You could add in milk, chopped up fruits and various different seeds. By adding a range of food into your baby's meal, it would ensure a higher nutrient value for your baby!
Thirdly, snacks are indeed vital, but you should keep in mind not to destroy the baby's appetite with sweet juices or junk food. It would be recommended to provide your child with a cup of diluted or concentrated pure fruit juice or some healthy snack such as apples, banana, peaches, pear or soft oats bar instead. These items will provide your baby with more nutrition. The snack should be light and not given near to meal times. Your baby may be full to enjoy breakfast lunch or dinner if snacks are regularly given and in large quantity.
The final rule I am going to share with you is to let your child feed him or herself! Do not be worried that your child will not finish their food when they are eating slowly, give them some time. Babies should be given the responsibility of feeding themselves, this would increase the probability that the baby would eat during meal times. You can assist in feeding him by holding on to your baby's utensils as your little one learns to pop the food into his or her tiny mouth. It promotes good eating habits. Babies take cue from your facial expressions, if you show that you dislike something, your baby would most probably dislike it as well. They observe your face so you have to smile constantly! Do not be disappointed if your baby is not eating, they will learn slowly, give them time.
All said and done, start applying the four simple rules to rid off a fussy eating habit!
