Tammy Evans
It is amazing that every seven seconds, another baby boomer turns 50. That is over 11,000 new 50-year-olds every day. The first thing baby boomers are doing is rushing right out and rent or buy an RV, because most of the baby boomers are loading up RV's and taking to the highway, and the number is rising every day. Baby boomers have and are creating an RV boom.

More and more RV's are owned by baby boomers than any other age groups, and they are also the fastest growing generation in the RV market. There seems to be a very strong appeal to the lifestyle of an RV like it was years ago.

But why are baby boomers choosing to travel by RV? There is several reasons for the excitement of RV travel:

It brings the family closer together.
RV's can create a new and exciting experience.
Rv's can teach a new and interesting respect for nature.

There are more than 12,000 campgrounds nationwide that are offered to RV travelers. Many of the RV campgrounds offer swimming pools, entertainment, recreational centers, store and snack bars. They are basically located near popular tourist attractions and historical sites. This makes it easy for people to park their RV and use it as there base from which to see the local points of interest.

Many RV travelers are drawn to the growing number of luxury RV resorts. These luxury resorts have facilities that offer golf courses, health spas and many other recreational activities. Others people prefer public RV campground that have less facilities but offer great scenic beauty and easy access to outdoor activities such as hiking, fishing, kayaking, picnicking, canoeing, and rafting.

Having an RV offers the travelers freedom, flexibility and a lot of person control over where and when they go, how long they spend time at each place, and how long they stay. It's a home on wheels, with comfortable sleeping and dining areas, wonderful equipped kitchens and bathrooms, and the ability to tow or transport a boat, sports equipment such as an ATV or snowmobiles. Some models can come with luxurious amenities ranging from satellite dishes and flat-scream TV's to fireplaces and gourmet kitchens. You can even have an RV custom built to your exact specifications.

If you are thinking about checking out the market for some type of travel trailer, whether it's a motor home, a camper truck, there is an RV for nearly every taste and budget. The cost of RV travel is one of the reasons why RV's are so popular with the baby boomers.

Prices for new RV's typically range from $5,000 to $15,000 for folding camping trailers. Truck campers range from $5,000 to $28,000; $10,000 to $75,000 for conventional travel trailers; $50,000 to $160,000 for type C motor homes and $60,000 to $600,000 for type A motor homes.

RV vacations are more affordable than traveling by automobiles, airlines, or cruise ships. After factoring in the cost of owning a RV and the fuel prices, as well as the tax benefits that can counter act some of those costs, a family of four can spend up to 60 percent less by vacationing in an RV.

Why are the baby boomers having such an effect on the popularity of RV travel? The 78 million Americans born between 1946 and 1964 represent almost 30 percent of the U.S. population. Once the rest of the baby boomers pass the half-century mark and are over 50, those numbers will be even higher.
