Baby Boy Names that Are Nerdy or Brainy

Elle
Remember that when you are choosing a baby name for your unborn child, that the name you give them will follow them through life as a child, a teenager, and an adult. While some names can be cute and fun as a child, they can be embarrassing as an adult. They can even help or hurt in the formation of your child's personality.

Here are some names to consider that are a bit brainy, for a smart successful child and some to avoid.

Eugene - Greek for Blue Blood. This name can be shortened to Gene as well if you want to have a way out of nerdy formal name.

Eustace - Latin for Calming

Elwood - English for Old Wood

Edward - English for Prospering Defender

Edwin - English for Prosperous Friend

Frasier - English for Attractive man with curls

Irwin - English for Practical

Niles - English for Smooth

Seymour - French for Prayerful

Socrates - Greek Philosopher, Brilliant

Sophocles - Greek Playwright

Simon - Hebrew for thoughtful, good listener

Wainwright - Typically a last name

Walsh - Typically a last name

Watson - English for Helpful

Wilbert - German for Smart

These names while cute and fun can be hard to carry through adolescent and teen school years:

Barney - Short for Barnett, means leader of men. Barney can be associated with the purple, pre-school teaching dinosaur.

Ernie - Short for Ernest, means sincere. Ernie can often be referred to as Bert and Ernie from Sesame Strett.

Harry - English for Home Ruler. Harry can often be taken literally to mean "hairy" or covered in hair. Not good for a teenage boy if he enters puberty early.

Urkle - Steve Urkel, a fictional character on the ABC/CBS comedy sitcom Family Matters has made this nerdy name popular. While funny, you may not want to put this undue stress on your child.

There are over a hundred thousand names to choose from for your new baby. A carefully selected name can mean the difference between success and failure in their early years. IT can be the source of teasing or admiration. The meaning and feeling behind a name serves as a first impression to the people who will meet your child for the first time in school, at their job, and in their social lives.

Don't you think that's a bit mellodramatic? I know many people with crappy names and they seem to be doing fine. It all depends on your culture really, one name on one side of the world could be considered rediculous on the other side. As long as you don't act like a total dufus, it doesn't matter if your name sounds like puke.

Names may make or break a child. We have to choose wisely as parents.
