Baby Colic, No it is Silent Reflux

My first child was an angel baby. She did nothing wrong. She would play with her toys and be content while I made dinner. She would only cry if something was wrong. So when I was pregnant with my second child, I assumed she was going to be an angel as well. But boy was I wrong.

It started in the hospital after her birth. She refused to be left in the bassinet and required someone to hold her. If I laid her down after she fell asleep she would start screaming and wake herself. So to the hospital's dismay I slept with her in my arms.

I assumed she had colic, because this continued. She not be content on her own, she would sleep in my arms every night and wake every 2 hours. After two months it seemed to be getting worst. I talked to a few mommy friends and they suspected reflux. Then I went on a hunt about information on Infant reflux.

Most of the information I found was about reflux and spitting up, but she did not spit up much at all. Then I found the answer. Silent reflux, were the child refluxes the stomach acid up to the point of their throat and swallows it back down. This is one of the worst forms of reflux since it is hard to see it happen and the baby is getting burnt twice, once going up and again back down.

Reflux is a common problem for several infants each year. The parents or doctor assume the child is just colicky and will grow out of the colic in time. There are several forms of medication and treatment for reflux to help stop the burning and spitting. Reflux can cause serious problems for an infant and should not be overlooked. Please speak with your doctor if you believe your child has reflux.
