It was that sleeping bag that inspired this crocheted version.
I wanted a crochet baby sleeping bag that worked similar to a bunting, but without all the lacing and ties that few of us have the patience for when we need to hurry out the door. So this sleeping bag is done up in super-soft crochet, with large buttons running up the side.
It's a really easy pattern that I think you'll be pleasantly surprised with. Make one in just a few hours, and you might be inspired to make a few more for charity crochet giving.
Baby Crochet Sleeping Bag
Materials:
*Caron Simply Soft No Dye Lot Yarn (Frost Green used in image) - 6 oz.
*Size H/8 5.00 mm Hook
*(8) 3/4" buttons
Finished Size:
6 and 12 months
Abbreviations:
Ch = Chain
Sc = Single Crochet
Dc = Double Crochet
Notes:
Worked in 3 parts: Front, back, and edging (which seams front & back together and adds buttonholes). Directions are given for the size 6 month crochet pattern; changes, where applicable, are in parenthesis.
Back Panel:
Row 1: Starting at top of back panel, Ch 44 loosely; dc in 4th ch from hook, skip next ch, sc in next ch, *skip next ch, 3 dc in next ch, skip next ch, sc in next ch; repeat from * across to last 2 chains, skip next ch, 2 dc in last ch.
Row 2: Ch 1, turn; sc in first dc, skip next dc, 3 dc in next sc, *skip next dc, sc in next dc, skip next dc, 3 dc in next sc; repeat from * across to last 2 stitches, skip next dc, sc in top of turning chain.
Row 3: Ch 3, turn; dc in first sc, skip next dc, sc in next dc, *skip next dc, 3 dc in next sc, skip next dc, sc in next dc; repeat from * across to last 2 stitches, skip next dc, 2 dc in last sc.
Rows 4-35 (4-42): Repeat rows 2-3, ending with row 3.
Row 36 (43): Ch 1, turn; sc in next stitch and in each stitch across.
Rows 37-40 (44-48): Ch 1, turn; sc in back stitches only in each stitch across.
Row 41 (49): Do not turn. Working up the side, (Ch 1, 2 sc) in same stitch, space 42 (50) sc evenly up the side to next corner. Work 3 sc in the corner. Sc in each of the next 40 stitches across the top. Leave opposite side unfinished.
Row 42 (50): Ch 1, turn; (3 sc in next st, sk next st) across to last 2 stitches of top. Skip next stitch, 3 sc in next stitch. Sc in next 5 stitches, (ch 5, sc in same st and each of next 7 stitches) to the last 6 stitches. Leave last 6 stitches unworked.
Finish off, weave in ends.
Front Panel:
Repeat rows 1-41 (49) of back panel. Finish off, weave in ends.
Finishing:
Place right sides together. Matching stitches, stitch the inside loops only on the unfinished side, bottom, and the first 6 stitches of finished side. Fasten off.
Sew buttons along the finished side by matching to the button loops.
