Baby Einstein Recall and Refund for Disney DVD Videos

Baby Einstein Recall

Marie M. Daniels
In October of 2009 there was a refund and recall issued for the Baby Einstein DVD videos. Julie Aigner-Clark originally founded the Baby Einstein Company but she has since sold to Disney. Disney now owns the Baby Einstein products and they are the ones behind the voluntary recall. They also now offer a money back guarantee for the new DVD's if you are not satisfied.

You can find complete details of the Baby Einstein recall and refund information here: www.babyeinstein.com/parentsguide/satisfaction/upgrade

If you would like a refund for your purchase of a Baby Einstein DVD video you do not need a receipt. Although the Baby Einstein recall notes that purchase has to have been made from June 5, 2004 to September 4, 2009. If you are not satisfied with your Baby Einstein DVD you may return it and in return you can choose to get one of four offers.

The Baby Einstein recall refunds are:
1. Any one Baby Einstein book of your choosing.
2. Any one Baby Einstein CD musical soundtrack.
3. A 25% off coupon for one Baby Einstein products to use at the online Disney Store.
4. A full refund of the current retail value of $15.99.

You may only choose one refund from the above list for the Baby Einstein recall. This recall is only for the Baby Einstein DVD videos and no other Baby Einstein products. They have a form for you to complete and mail in with the Baby Einstein DVD that you no longer want. Each household can return up to 4 Baby Einstein DVD's as stated in the recall rules. You have until March 4, 2010 to mail in your requests for the Baby Einstein (DVD Guarantee/Upgrade Offer) recall.

Why is Disney recalling the Baby Einstein DVD's? On the Baby Einstein and Disney store web sites they are making it sound like you can get a money back guarantee if you are not satisfied. The real reason behind the Baby Einstein "recall" is the DVD's were advertised as seemingly educational for babies. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) was called to action but no charges were brought. There were earlier advertisements that the videos were educational but those loose claims have sense stopped. Some think that the Walt Disney Studios was shamed into the "recall" and refund by all of the media surrounding the Baby Einstein DVD's.

There were several complaints made about the products and misleading advertising. As a parent who took all three of my children to the pediatrician for their well baby doctor's visits I know that they don't recommend any television for children from birth to age two. These Baby Einstein videos were geared directly to that very young age group. Studies have been done on the effects of television on infants and the findings have shown that early TV viewing interrupts normal learning patterns.

I am glad they are finally bringing attention to this. I am a firm believer that you should never sit a child in front of a televison instead of interaction. My child received a lot of these as gifts and we will be returning them for sure. I think they are cute but I watch so many parents use televison as a babysitter. How sad.

TOOOOOO funny. People actually thought buying a DVD was going to make their baby a genius. Shows how gullible people are, LOL.

It may be baby einstein, but the papa's running the place don't sound like they are doing such a great job!

I always wondered how those DVDs could claim to be educational. Thanks for the update!
