Baby Gabriel Johnson: Mexico Underground Adoption Probable; Hotel Implicated; Six Flags Meeting

Rik Merchant
February 7, 2010; Sunday. Logan McQueary made a breakthrough in his search for his nine-month-old son, Gabriel Johnson, who went missing in San Antonio Texas after his mother, Elizabeth Johnson, took him from their Tempe Arizona home. McQueary learned that HomeGate Studios & Suites in Fiesta Park, where Johnson stayed with Gabriel for the week of December 20 2009 is known for housing mothers who want to sell their children via the underground adoption market. He also learned that the Six Flags Fiesta Texas amusement park, where Johnson took Gabriel on the last day that the baby was seen with her, December 26, is a meeting place for mothers and their babies with underground adoptive parents.

Earlier in the day, McQueary- with his two cousins and CBS5 news correspondent Pat McReynolds- visited the same places where Johnson and Baby Gabriel were seen by eyewitnesses and/or were caught on surveillance cameras during their eight days together in San Antonio. McQueary and company talked to people at the nearby Subway, for example, and posted flyers picturing both Baby Gabriel and Johnson. They read e-mails and took phone calls. And then McQueary struck black gold. An adoption expert who helps the FBI with underground adoption cases contacted him and told him three zingers.

Zinger #1. The adoption expert, who asked not to be named, enlightened McQueary about HomeGate Studios & Suites. Adoption circles routinely house young mothers with their babies at the HomeGate that Johnson and Baby Gabriel stayed at. The adoption brokers meet there with the mothers and do the adoption paperwork.

Zinger #2. The adoption expert told McQueary that because of the crowds of people and the security system at the Six Flags Fiesta Texas amusement park, the park is a safe place for both sides of an underground adoption to do business- mothers meet at the park with adoptive parents and often hand over their babies then and there.

Surveillance cameras caught Johnson with Baby Gabriel just outside Six Flags on their last day together, December 26- the day on which the mother took her last photos of Baby Gabriel at the HomeGate hotel.

Tammi Smith, who is a person of interest in Baby Gabriel's disappearance is out of jail on a $15k bond. Smith is a colon hydrotherapist. She was certified by The International Association of Colon Hydrotherapists (IACH), whose headquarters, on San Pedro, is just one block from The HomeGate hotel where Johnson stayed with Baby Gabriel. The FBI have questioned IACH employees without results.

The ten-day kidnapping venture began on December 18 when Johnson left Arizona with Gabriel and ended on December 26 when the baby was last seen, with his mother. Gabriel went officially missing on December 27 when McQueary called the police after receiving a text message that day from Johnson saying she had killed their baby. No murder evidence was found. After her arrest, Johnson told Law Enforcement that she had given away Gabriel.

Zinger #3. The adoption expert enlightened McQueary with a third zinger. By a recent new laws, Texas is one of the easiest states in which to strip a natural father of his custodial rights.

So, an underground adoption may have occurred for Gabriel. Famous private investigator Jay J. Armes considered this possibility when he took on the Gabriel's case. Armes has saved 100+ children from underground adoption in Mexico. He thinks Gabriel may have been taken south of the border. In a phone interview on February 3, he told me that after debriefing McQueary in the morning, he spent the afternoon in Mexico. Based on some credible leads, he has since sent 'some agents' into Mexico.

About whoever might be hiding Baby Gabriel, Jay J. Armes said, "We'll find them. I have forty years experience and we have 175 years experience working on this." As he told me, "I will find him."

I guess you can't really blame Johnson for hating her husband. He's a man, after all. We men are evil, right? He probably didn't listen to her enough. He might've even missed a "special occasion" that she hinted at for weeks. Then the poor thing had an evil son? My my...no wonder she got rid of him. I'm sying this with tongue-in-cheek. She'd probably do better to just stay in jail.

This story is so heart wrenching. I pray they find him soon, safe and sound.
