Baby Name Trends for 2011

Jody Morse
While certain baby names have stayed popular over the years, others come and go. Whether you want to choose a trendy name for your son or daughter or you want to know what names to stay away from this year, you've come to the right place. Here are some of the baby name trends for 2011.

Nature Baby Names

Nature baby names have become increasingly popular, especially for baby girls. Flower baby names for girls (e.g. Lily, Rose, and Violet) are going to remain trendy choices. Autumn will remain a common choice, while the name Rain seems to be increasing in popularity. Dahlia and Azalea are also expected to be trendy baby names for 2011 as well. Poetic nature names will also be a popular baby name trend for 2011. Examples of this include Autumn Rain, Summer Rose, and Sienna Skye.

Reality TV Show Names

Another one of the baby name trends for 2011 is going to be names of people in reality tv shows. Farrah and Maci for girls and Bentley for boys are going to be common choices due to "Teen Mom," according to iVillage.com. Kimberly and Khloe (as in the Kardashian sisters) are also expected to remain fairly trendy choices for 2011. Due to the popularity of the show "Jersey Shore," some expect to see an increase in names like Angelina, Samantha (Sammi), and Nicole (but hopefully not Snooki) for girls and Mike, Paul, and Ronald for boys.

Political Baby Names

Sarah Palin and her family are expected to influence baby names, also according to iVillage.com. For girls, there is going to be an increase in the names Bristol, Willows, and Piper. Levi, after Bristol Palin's baby father and on-again, off-again partner, is also expected to see an increase on the name charts. British politics are also expected to impact baby name trends for 2011. The name Kate, after Kate Middleton, is expected to be a popular choice this year.

Twilight Baby Names

Some believe that the Twilight baby names trend is going to die down for 2011, but this probably won't happen until the movie series has ended. While the name Bella is the most popular name from the series for girls, Rosalie is also becoming quite popular. Esme and Alice are also becoming fairly common choices. Edward, Jasper, and Emmet are also expected to remain fairly popular choices due to the movie series. With the name Jacob, it's hard to tell, as the name has been a common choice for boys for awhile now.

French Baby Names

According to iVillage.com, French baby names are going to be trendy 2011 baby name choices for both boys and girls this year. This is mostly due to the names that celebrities have been naming their kids recently. Genevieve, Celine, Juliette, and Madeline will be popular baby names for girls, while Jean-Paul, Lucas, and Gerard are expected to be popular for boys.

These are just a few of the many baby name trends for 2011. Keep in mind that there are many other baby names which will be popular this year.

Those are fun ways to get baby names. I read your last two health articles, but could not leave a comment. Just wanted to let you know I was there and that they were very good.

Great predictions and info! If I have a baby this year, your article will help me know what NOT to name him/her because my husband and I don't want to be trendy :)

I think Azalea is really pretty. Violet is a lovely name too. I like flower themes.
