Baby Named Sarah McCain Palin

Father May Wish to Make Plans for His Future Visitation Schedule Now

Sylvia Cochran
Quoting the Associated Press, USA Today reports that Mark Ciptak of Tennessee is the proud papa of a healthy baby named Sarah McCain Palin Ciptak.

In what can only be described as temporary insanity or a serious lapse in judgment, Mr. Ciptak decided to override his wife's wishes and their joint plans for naming the youngster Ava Grace, and instead went behind his wife's back to change the already filled out birth certificate.

His reason? He wants to "get the word out" about the presidential campaign. He finishes up by stating that he "took one for the cause."

No, Mr. Ciptak, you have not taken one for the cause. Take if from someone who went to school with a child whose name left kids first blinking rapidly, then snickering uncontrollably, and finally concocting all kinds of lame jokes and nicknames that are probably still haunting the poor soul.

Your kid is taking one for the cause. Ava Grace is a gorgeous name and condemning her to be known forevermore as Sarah McCain Palin is cruel. Not only that, but your wife is taking one for the cause as well. She now knows that your first allegiance is not to her, but to your political leanings.

Going behind her back has now been established as an acceptable means as getting things done, and since you introduced it into your marriage - although, truth be told, it most likely was already present - only the deity knows what the far reaching results are going to be from this misstep.

This is rather reminiscent of the poor kid saddled with the name "Talula Does The Hula From Hawaii." The BBC reported on this situation where parents thought they were cute by making their offspring bear this name, while a New Zealand court turned the nine year old girl into a ward of the state so she could change it to something a bit more in keeping with real life.

It is somewhat disconcerting that examples cited as inappropriate names were "Sex Fruit" and "Keenan Got Lucy," while "Midnight Chardonnay" and "Number 16 Bus Shelter" were permitted.

A final warning to Mr. Ciptak: unless you want to come back in five years, when you have alternating weekend visitation with your kids and they are calling some other guy "daddy," and read through this article wondering what the heck you were thinking, go back now and change the paperwork back to its original designation.

Do people not realize that children carry their names into adulthood with them? I can only imagine what this poor child will indure, rather McCain / palin wins or loses...the child and mother already lost. I could not even imagine pulling such a stunt behind your spouse's back!

If the father cared so much about "getting the word out" he should have changed his own name. Sarah isn't a bad name, its the fact that he went behind his wife's back that gets me.

    Wow, pretty hardcore people!

Hay I have a story involving the FBI actively participating in a stalking, blacklisting, harassing and a few more -ings to go with those. I can report suppression of the story, oppression of the person involved, and the ionosphere is being filled with beat down rhetoric by--believe-it-or-not--local tv weathermen who are by all appearances gleefully participating in the beat down. There are more -ions involved to go with the missing -ings. And another category without common endings are misdemeanors and dare I say felonies. Newsworthy--it would make too much money for AC it appears because it is well hidden on my modest page. Will it stay there?

Kudos, Sylvia. I thought much the same thing though I was a bit more focused on the how dare he do this without consulting his wife/the baby's mother. Such a breach of trust and an impulsive and selfish act. We can only hope he is clueless rather than malevolent.

That poor child. In Tennessee the mother is allowed to legally change the child's name BACK to Ava Grace (which is a much better pick) until the child's first birthday. I would also suggest a good lawyer for a divorce.

I cannot believe he turned his newborn daughter into a political advertisement! Did he not think Americans knew already who was running? He is obviously expecting money and gifts to be showered upon him. Using his daughter, how awful!

You find the most interesting topics! Amazing.....but people will name babies anything. Whether I admired a famous person or not, I would not name my baby after that person. I understand the desire to do this but I think it places a burden on a kid to live up to expectations, whatever they may be. Then there are people who name babies Apple or Dweezil, etc. I guess the kids learn to accept those names but I'd be angry if someone named me Dweezil.
