Baby Names We Don't See Any More

You will always meet a Chris or a Brittany. Maybe you'll someday do business with a Jen, or be served coffee by a John. These names are, for the most part, pretty common. There are thousands of babies born with these names every year. Some names will never grow old. They will always stand the test of time. Others either kind of run their course historically or else someone does something to forever destroy that name.

The first name we don't see any more is Cleopatra. Why can't there be a little baby Cleopatra? The Cleopatra we all know and love is the one who married her 12 year old brother, but seemed to enjoy the company of both Julius Caesar and Mark Antony. She pretty much turned Egypt over to Rome and then as the story goes she killed herself with an asp so that she could be buried with Antony.

One child's name that is forever ruined wasn't even a real person. The character Damien, from the 1976 classic The Omen, has made sure that no child in the near future will carry that name. Damien, the cute little tyke, was either misunderstood by everyone or he did cause all of those deaths. Probably the fact he was the son of the devil had something do with all of that.

Why is it that we don't see any birth announcements for a baby with the name Judas? That name was forever destroyed by Judas Iscariot. Judas' betrayal of Jesus caused every parent to skip over that name when they are going through the J section of the baby book.

Can't you picture a little old lady leaning over a baby carriage saying, "What a cute little boy. What's his name?" The mother's response "Why thank you. We named him Lucifer." The story of the fallen angel Lucifer has made sure that no parents will bestow that name on their child. The angel supposedly led a band of angels away from heaven and into a struggle with God.

The last baby name we don't see any more was ruined by a monster. The name Adolf isn't at the top of the baby lists because Adolf Hitler altered the world with his warped sense of right and wrong. He changed the world by bringing on World War II and causing mass genocide of multiple groups of peoples. I would think that after the war the name Adolf was scratched off from everyone's list for quite a while.

These names are familiar to us as our own, but will they be used again? Will someone give one of these names to a child and change the belief that one name can conjure up negative thoughts and ideas. Maybe someday I'll be saying, "I'll just have the black raspberry. Thank you, Lucifer."
