Baby Products Moms Can Steal This Summer

Lagniappe
As summer quickly approaches, everybody is feeling as though they might need a quick tune-up in certain areas of beauty. For new moms, the time, energy, and money may all be lacking when it comes to stocking up on some summer basics. Never fear, though; your baby's products are a virtual treasure trove of Mommy's little helpers, as long as you know where to look.

1. Grab the baby oil
Baby oil is, obviously a seriously deep moisturizer. What many moms don't realize, though, is that it's as effective for making Mommy glow as it is for baby, as long as it's used correctly. When you get out of the shower, dab yourself with a towel. While still damp, put on a light layer of baby oil and let it soak in as you dry. You'll wind up with baby-soft skin, no greasy feel, and a glow that'll make Jennifer Lopez jealous. Don't believe me? The secret to all the MTV TRL hosts' skin glow for the last several years has been...Johnson's baby oil gel. Really.

2. Baby powder* to the rescue!
Are Mommy and Daddy both feeling sticky while sleeping on hot summer nights? Sprinkle baby powder on the sheets before you hit the sack for sweetly-scented, silky dreams. Mommy's hair feeling a little greasy from being out all day in the heat? Sprinkle some baby powder on your hairbrush, comb through your hair, and bring it back to life. Did baby tangle up one of Mommy's favorite summertime "statement" necklaces that are all the rage? Sprinkle baby powder on it. It will act as a lubricant and untangle the necklace easily. No harm done.

*A word to the wise, though: Baby powder is great for virtually everyone BUT baby. It can get in baby's lungs as it disperses in the air and cause respiratory problems. Good thing it's such a useful tool for Mommy. This is a gift from baby's dresser Mommy can keep!

3. Diaper rash cream
Even though names like Boudreaux's Buttpaste make this stuff sound hilarious and a bit goofy, the fact is that diaper rash cream is an awesome protector and defender of skin. Specifically, if Mommy starts getting blisters from wearing summer sandals while taking the million walks a day baby loves, she won't need to stop at the pharmacy to stock up on Neosporin or Bactine; just use diaper rash cream. It will keep the blister dry, heal the cracked skin, and help Mommy keep on truckin'.

Mommies all over pour their hearts and souls into their babies. As the temperature rises, let baby finally start giving back to Mommy...even if he's not aware he's doing it.

I was one of those "baby oil and iodine" sun worshippers back in the 60s and 70s. Foolish, we now know; however, I did have the softest skin of my life back then. I also am a baby powder junkie in the summer.
