Baby Safety in Your House

You're little girl or boy is finally starting to figure out that staying stationary isn't the most exciting thing to do. Whether you're baby is rolling, crawling, cruising or walking, the time has come to foam pad your house. I'm sure some of you would like to wrap your precious little one in bubble wrap to prevent all of the bumps and bruises to come. Looking at your house right now, you're starting to see that almost everything you have is now a huge danger to your mobile baby. It's time to quickly make some drastic changes to try and prevent as many injuries as possible.

Some of you might not even know where to start, and why should you. You're not a 6-10 month old searching for things to stick your fingers into, or looking to see what you can pull yourself up on. However, the best place to start looking for potential hazards is by getting on all fours and crawling around your own house.

Here are the top 5 tips to making sure your house is baby proof:

1. Padding - Placing padding around all sharp corners of tables, fire places, entertainment centers and low windows, will cushion the sharp edged head butts.

2. Wire hiding - Wires to a baby are like candy. They see one, and they're immediate reaction is to grab and pull. Pulling any wire can never lead to anything good. Therefore, covering all wires and keeping them out of reach will lessen the risk of something fall on your little one's head.

3. Lock the doors - Crawling around on the ground opens up a whole new world of adventure for your little one. They'll be dying to know what's behind doors 1, 2 & 3. The best precaution is to put child safety locks on all cabinets and doors lower than 4 feet tall.

4. Hide the pennies - Anything as small as a penny or a nickel can fit down a child's throat. The best way to make sure none of these tiny items are around is by getting back down on all fours, and searching the floors.

5. Sockets - While it is a great educational milestone when a baby learns to put an object into another, you don't want that object going into a wall socket. It's best to purchase socket covers for all sockets in the entire house.

Following these tips will start you off on a safe road to a healthy and hurt free baby. You want new milestones that your little one's beginning to achieve to be special rather than scary. Hopefully after you finish baby proofing your house, you're biggest challenge will be keeping up with your speedy baby.
