Baby Shower Game Ideas that Are Fun and Easy

Baby Shower Games Add Memories

Judy Kaelin
Playing games is a great way to set the mood and help the godparents, grandparents, and friends to mingle and get better acquainted with one another and learn more about the people that will be sharing in the life of the new baby.

Present the winners of games with prizes that the guest can take home to enjoy. Game prize ideas include stationery, bath salts, bath beads, scented soaps, pens, note pads, travel size lotions, gift certificates, potted plants or candy.

Sing It, Baby! Seated or standing in a circle, each guest in turn must sing a line or two from a song that has the word "baby" in it. If a "Baby" song is repeated, that person is out of the game. Set a timer to end the game and the person who sang last before the timer signaled wins.

Guess The Baby Picture: With the shower invitation request your guests to bring a baby picture of themselves. Number and display all the baby pictures and give each participant paper and pen and ask them to identify as many baby pictures as they can. The guest with the most correct guesses wins.

Never Say Baby: String several beads on a length of ribbon or yarn, tied with a bow, on arrival give a string of beads to each guest. The rule of the game is that, "no-one" is allowed to say the word "baby" during the baby shower. Whoever hears "baby" from another guest, takes a bead from that person. The guest who collects the most beads by the end of the baby shower will get a prize. A very fun game and a baby shower favorite.

Clip the Pins: While the other guests observe, a participant will be given a snap clothes pin. With the clothes pin in hand they must bend forward and reaching between their legs attempt to clip the clothes pin to their clothing as high as they can, the one that can reach the furthest is the winner. This is great fun especially if you have guests of all ages participating.

To add to the fun a couple of old wives tales should be noted, for example: The story of the "seventh gift," is a tale that states that the giver of the seventh gift to be opened will be the next expectant mother. However, avoid "planting" the seventh gift.

Another fable is: The number of ribbons broken when unwrapping packages indicates the number babies the expectant mother will be blessed with. (You may want to offer scissors to the expectant mother to avoid a population explosion).

  • Have pen and paper ready to keep track of the giver of the gifts so the mommy can send regards.
