Who Got the Dirty Diaper?
When guests arrive, have a basket of small hand-made diapers or cheap store-bought diapers at the door. Each guest will pick a diaper from the basket, and only one of those diapers will be the "dirty" diaper. This can be created by melting a chocolate (a Hershey Kiss or a Mounds Bar work great for this!) and smearing it on the inside of the diaper. The lucky winner gets a prize!
Who Can Guess The Size of Mommy's Belly? (Using Ribbon or Toilet Paper!)
Have each party guest cut a piece of baby ribbon or toilet paper that they think will most accurately fit around the mommy-to-be's belly. Make sure you write everyone's name on the back of their piece. Then, wrap a piece of toilet paper/ribbon around the mommy-to-be's stomach and get an accurately cut piece to compare all the others to. Whoever's piece is closest in size to the real deal is the winner!
Word Scramble
A word scramble is always fun for party guests. It's also a simple game that people can relax and take their time with while chit chatting and enjoying drinks and appetizers. There are multiple websites out there that have offered their pre-made word scrambles, but you can also easily make your own!
Decorations/Gifts
Clothes Line
A very cute, as well as, practical decoration for a baby shower is a clothes line with all new baby clothes, socks, booties, bibs, etc. hanging from it with clothes pins. You can hang a piece of rope and hang the items with clothes pins. This is a huge crowd pleaser! Your guests will get a kick out of it, and the mommy-to-be will have a whole new wardrobe for her baby on the way!
Diaper Cake
Another very cute and practical decoration that can serve as a centerpiece for your party is a diaper cake. This is a fake cake made of real baby diapers! Buy a pack of 60 or more diapers, roll each diaper up and place a rubber band around each individual one. For the bottom layer, stand diapers up side by side onto a large round serving platter until there is no empty space left, then place a rubber band around the whole circle of diapers. Now you have your bottom layer! Next, make your middle and top layers using the same process. They should not be as difficult since there will not be as many diapers to deal with.
For any of the layers, to help contain the diapers while you are standing them up side by side and organizing them, you may use a round baking dish, kitchen pan, etc. that matches the circumference of the layer you are aiming to make. This will also be helpful especially towards the end when you are trying to wrap the rubber band around the whole circle of diapers. Otherwise, they tend to squiggle around and fall down.
When all the layers are complete, simply place the layers on top of each other so you have a 3-layered diaper cake. To make it look decorative, wrap baby ribbon around the rubber bands holding each layer together, so the rubber bands do not show. Last, you can stick cute baby trinkets in the cake to give it some baby lovin'! The dollar store or party stores sell small plastic rattles, bottles, etc. When it's all finished, you have yourself a homemade centerpiece that the guests will love! The mommy-to-be will be stocked with lots of diapers for her little one on the way too!
Party Favors
Customized Candy Bar Wrappers
There are tons of websites that will customize candy bar wrappers for you. On most sites, you can choose for them to send you the full wrapped candy bar with the chocolate included, or just the wrapper and the foil. You can save some money by just ordering the wrapper and foil, and then buying and wrapping the chocolate bars yourself. This is easy enough to do. You can just use a piece of clear tape to fasten the back of the wrappers and it looks great!
Chocolate Lollipops
Who wouldn't love a homemade chocolate rattle or bottle on the way out the door! Any party store sells the chocolate and the molds necessary to create your own chocolate party favors. Flower Pot + Seeds
This is always a cute favor with meaning. You can plant the seeds and watch it grow as the baby grows. Those flowers will always symbolize the birth and growth of the new baby on the way. There are even websites that will personalize seed packets for you.
