The whole idea of a baby shower is to "shower" the mom-to-be with gifts to help out with the baby. So you can have an invitation to really illustrate this idea. A wording you could use to do this is:
The forecast calls for a baby shower on (fill in the date)
Grab your umbrella and come join the fun!!
You could also go for a traditional sounding invitation wording such as:
Babies are gifts from God
Come join us on (fill in the date) to help celebrate our wonderful present.
If you are one who doesn't want to be surprised and already know the gender you could always opt to have your invitation wording reflect whatever you are having. In the instance of a girl:
What's baking in that oven?
Something with sugar, spice, and everything nice.
We would be honored if you joined us for the celebration
On the impending arrival of our little girl!!
Or if you are going to have a little boy instead:
What's that over there?
Can you tell?
Something made of snakes, snails, and puppy dog tails!!
We're having a boy! Come join us for the celebration!!
All of the aforementioned ideas are for single births. But what if you are having more than one? You could always still incorporate a weather theme if you are having more but instead use another term instead of shower:
We are so excited to be having (twins, triplets, etc)
That we are not just having a shower,
We're having a TSUNAMI!!
Come join us for the celebration of our extra special blessings.
Or:
Every baby is a miracle,
And we are fortunate to be having more than one.
Join us in counting our blessings on (fill in the blank)
For those of you who already have one or more children, you can still have a party even though you may not want a big to do. So instead of a shower you could have a "sprinkle" where you can still have a get together, but don't receive as many gifts (especially if you are having another of the gender that you already have).
We are predicting a light sprinkle on (fill in the date)
There will be a small get together to get ready
To welcome the newest addition to our loving family.
Another good idea when you are adding another baby to the family is:
And baby makes (fill in the number)
We are happy to be adding to our family.
Celebrate with us on (fill in the date)
These are just a couple of ideas that you can use for your shower invitations. Creativity always helps to make a shower more fun and your invitations will stand out if there is a creative flair to it rather then a generic store bought feeling. Once again congratulations on your baby and have fun planning your shower, no matter what you decide to do!!
