Stay organized along the way
This is probably the single biggest tip for anyone. You need to stay organized and detailed or you can get lost quickly. A checklist works very well, and even a notebook or journal can help when you have ideas to add. Don't attempt to keep everything in your head.
Have a budget
Another important factor is having a budget during the planning stage. Before you begin buying gifts, games, food and anything else you want to have at the baby shower, have an established budget in place. This is also a good time to ask guests who plan to attend for donations if you plan on sharing the expenses. The last thing you want to do is hit up attendee's for money at the party itself.
Having a budget will also prevent you from getting carried away with spending. Your budget will also help determine the type and size of shower you can actually have.
Should you print up fancy invitations?
Many people want to go "all out" and get printed invitations from the printing company or have unique stationary printed up, and while that is nice, it certainly isn't necessary or in poor taste if you do not go that route. Buying a box of invitations from your local greeting card store is more than adequate here. I've even seen people design their own before.
A couple of important points here is that you want to be sure you request and RSVP on your invitations so you know how many will be attending. This is for obvious reasons. How soon do you mail out the invitations? It is advisable to send them out 3-4 weeks before the baby shower so that guests can make plans to attend and have time to get a gift to bring.
These are only a few of the more important tips when beginning the planning stages of any baby shower. They can help reduce the stress and make the event more enjoyable.
