Baby's First Rollover

Jane Vee
As a new parent you can't wait for your baby's firsts. You have cameras setting up all over the house to be handy at an instant notice. You want to capture all the firsts to show to your family and friends. When your family lives out of town this especially is true.

I was a first time parent with a beautiful 9 lb baby girl. This baby was so incredible to me. She came out of the womb able to hold a bottle and lift her head. You may think I am exaggerating but I am not. I thought holding her head up would be one of those firsts that I would have to look forward to. Not a chance!

My mother in law, and father-in-law lived in the same town as us. I couldn't wait until my parents and my brother's family would come at Christmas to see my newborn. I let my little girl hold her own bottle sometimes and I would hold her. Sometimes I would take the bottle away from her just so I could feed her. Just something about being a mom and feeding your baby.

At Christmas time my family came to visit. I had my little girl on the couch with a gate up so she couldn't roll off. My husband gave me grief because whoever heard of a two month old rolling over. Thank goodness I took precautions. That little girl rolled over in front of me and my sister-in-law. I was so excited! My sister-in-law said she didn't know she did so she might not do it again. My little girl knew she rolled over because from then on she would roll herself onto her stomach and onto her back. It was really something.

This is a good lesson to new parents. Don't always go by the milestones that doctors set. They are just guidelines. It's always best to be safe instead of sorry. If you are going to have your child lying down on furniture make sure there is a gate up or be right beside of him or her.
