Bachelor Pad Episode 5 Recap: Contestants Compete as Couples and Three Couples Go into Finale (Sept. 6, 2010-ABC)
There are some obvious couples in the mansion, and some women who are not paired with any men, making it more difficult to manipulate these "single" women who are in it solely to win the prize, just as the men seem to be. The women who are standing by their men are either playing a good game, or are in love with the idea of falling in love with a man with money.
Three eliminated early and couples' competitions begin
Just as predicted in the sneak peek, the three single women went home, though Jesse B. chose Peyton and Dave chose Natalie. Gwen, Ashley, and Nikki all left immediately after the morning's elimination ceremony.
All the remaining couples will now compete as a team, Peyton and Jesse B. the only ones who are not romantically involved in any way.
The competition this week was a water balloon toss. If a couple dropped three balloons, they were eliminated. The first couple to lose was Peyton and Jesse B. They were followed by Tenley and Kiptyn, then Elizabeth and Kovacs. David and Natalie won the balloon toss contest, receiving the immunity rose and the date.
The date
As David and Natalie were preparing for their date, Kovacs and Elizabeth went out for a walk and saw the yellow Lamborghini parked in front of the mention. They hopped into the car, and realized this was for the date, so in an act of defiance, they made out in and on top of the car.
Dave and Natalie spent the day driving, and enjoying their time together. Later in the evening, Dave opened up and talked about some vulnerable details about his childhood.
They also talked strategies for the game. Dave tells Natalie that Kovacs and he made a pact to keep one another on until the end and has to be true to his word.
Back at the mansion
The girls are talking to one another about who is the best to keep around. Peyton feels that she and Jesse B. are not safe, but others are trying to reassure her that might not be accurate.
Kiptyn and Tenley talked about continuing their friendship outside of the mansion, both agreeing they'd like that.
Elizabeth comes on very strong with Kovacs, but he goes with the flow with whatever Elizabeth wants, having said earlier that if "(she) has a bad case of the Kovacs, then so be it." They sneak into the Fantasy Suite together for a rendezvous, but there is already trouble in paradise with Kovacs not being romantic enough for Elizabeth, and only caring about getting "laid." Kovacs accuses her of pushing him away, while he's trying to win the money.
The plans and elimination
Natalie encouraged Peyton to talk to Tenley about keeping Peyton and Jesse B. around strategically. Tenley agrees that Elizabeth and Kovacs might be tougher competitively.
Loyalties between the Kovacs, David, and Kiptyn are tight, but Tenley talked to Kiptyn about the advantages to voting Elizabeth and Kovacs off.
Natalie talks it over with David that she would rather send Elizabeth and Kovacs home, but he feels that they must be loyal to Kovacs.
Four couples left, the elimination will send one couple home. They find out that they will be voting as individuals, not as couples. With eight votes, it completely changes the game and it's now loyalty versus strategy.
Jesse B. has a talk with Kiptyn in the elimination room, and gives his word that next week, he will not vote Kiptyn off, and reminds him that the alliance between Kovacs and David are the strongest.
During the rose ceremony, the first couple to receive roses is Tenley and Kiptyn. The second couple to receive the roses is Elizabeth and Kovacs.
This sends a disappointed Peyton and Jesse B. home, with the realization that others did not vote as they told them they would.
Next week's episode
The competition will have the final three couples dancing ballroom, with choreographers from Dancing With The Stars teaching them the routines.
The entire cast of Bachelor Pad will return for the finale and the sneak peek suggests that there will be some twists and turns that are highly unexpected.
Bachelor Pad airs Mondays at 8 p.m. on ABC.
