Bachelorette DeAnna Pappas Finds the One

A Review of the Final Rose Ceremony

ABC's Season 4 of the Bachelorette has yielded many surprises as Deanna Pappas whittled the group of 25 single men down to one, The One to be exact. If your jaw dropped at the end of last week's episode, then your jaw sank through the floor at the end of the final rose ceremony.

Deanna took the remaining men; Jason, the stable, single dad, and Jesse, the free-spirited snowboarder, home to meet her family. Having been through this once before, her family was obviously a bit skeptical of the intentions of the two men. Day 1 of the visit seemed to scream Jason would be the pick at the end. He was calm, cool, collected, and extremely confident in meeting the family. Other than the fact that there was some concern about Deanna walking into a ready-made family, the family seemed to be on Team Jason from the get go. Jason fully impressed Deanna's father when he asked for her hand in marriage if it came to that.

Needless to say, Jesse had a bit more difficulty opening up to Deanna's family that first day. He seemed nervous and did not ask permission for Deanna's hand. The family seemed a bit more skeptical of his sincerity about the relationship that he would like to have with her.

The second day of the visit with the family yielded a little less certainty with results of the favorite. At the end of the day, DeAnna seemed as confused as ever about whom she would ultimately want to spend the rest of her life with. Her sister-in-law, Crystal, offered up a very thought-provoking question: "Who did Deanna see herself having kids with?"

Still at the end of the day, most people would have assumed Jason was the clear-cut winner. The three returned to the Bahamas to go on the last one-on-one dates. Both dates seemed to go well, and it was understandable that a person could be incredibly confused about the decision of whom they would choose for forever (or in some cases, until the final show airs). And of course, there was the surprising return of Jeremy, who needed an explanation as to why he was sent home. He also held that glimmer of hope that she would change her mind. With her blunt honesty, DeAnna turned Jeremy down for a second time, knowing that she was more in love with the two men whom were waiting for her final decision. On the day of the Rose Ceremony, there was no hemming and hawing over which man was for her. Deanna knew in her heart which man she wanted to spend the rest of her life with (if he accepted the final rose). One has to admire DeAnna for waking up with that certainty of her choice.

At the final rose ceremony, what a shock it was to see Jason as the first person to arrive. Everyone knows that the first to arrive is not the chosen one. So, if your jaw dropped in the previous episode, it completely fell off during this episode. DeAnna stopped Jason short of getting the proposal out. While trying to remain honest with him, she said that she was falling in love with him, but she was already in love with someone else. A dejected bachelor once more, Jason left in the limo he came in.

Enter Jesse, noticeably nervous, rushing up to DeAnna. He managed to get his proposal out and of course, DeAnna said yes. One might wonder what it was about Jesse that DeAnna fell for. Could it be the blunt honesty with which he conducts himself? Could it be the obvious sweetness and love that he had for her? All we can hope is this currently happy couple makes it to the alter and lives happily ever after. Can we hope to see the televised wedding next year?
