Whether you are seeking a quiet place to sit and relax, a walking trail that is well-lit or just to be surrounded by nature's beauty, you will find it all at Central Park in King, North Carolina. There are more than 17 acres to explore, a fish-stocked pond, and frequent community events at an outdoor amphitheater.

Central Park opened in 2001 and has been a favorite place for the citizens of King to visit and enjoy. Home to the annual King Fest, an Easter Sunrise Service, Easter Egg Hunt, Veteran's and Memorial Day Celebrations, July 4th City Celebration, and many more events. The park has two parking areas, a pond, amphitheater, playground, picnic shelters, Veteran's Memorial fountain and exhibit, historic cabins, and paved walking trails.

The park is also categorized as a passive park, so there are no skateboards or bikes allowed. Passive parks tend to be smaller in size and devoted to a theme. At Central Park the theme is beauty and tranquility. The only sounds are children chattering, birds chirping and the occasional goose honking. There are park benches through the grounds to encourage visitors to sit a while, relax and enjoy the scenery. Some days you may even find yourself to be the only person at the park.

Central Park has also developed into a backdrop for photo opportunities, prom dates, bridal parties, and family gatherings. Nature and man made landscapes combine to appeal to all ages. So whether you just want a few hours of solitude or you're planning a group celebration or gathering, Central Park in King can fill your needs. For more information or to reserve a shelter, contact the city of King at 336-983-6606.

To find the park from Highway 52, take the King exit and head towards downtown King. Turn right (at a traffic light) on to Kirby Road. Travel about 1/2 mile and you will see the first entrance on your left. An American flag is flying and an entry gate is flanked with floral beauty. You can also continue out Kirby Road a bit to enter the second parking area which is closest to the amphitheater. At the second entrance, you will also pass the Veteran's Memorial which aptly states, 'All gave some, and some gave all.'

Take time to get away from your busy schedules, take a short drive to King, and visit Central Park. You are sure to feel better after you have visited, enjoyed the beauty, and taken a stroll down to the pond.
