Back to School Craft - Alphabet Chair
Help Your Child Learn the Alphabet with this Fun Back to School Craft
Materials for this Back to School Craft - Alphabet Chair
To create your very own alphabet chair you will need an unfinished wooden chair, sandpaper, primer suitable for unfinished wood, glossy wood furniture paint (in your desired colors), alphabet letter stamps, a flat paintbrush, scrap piece of cardboard, rags for wiping up spills and drop cloth to protect the floor where you will be painting. When selecting paint for the chair, pick a color that will complement the room the chair will be placed in. For the alphabet letters, you can choose to use black paint or a variety of colors to create a different look.
How to Create an Alphabet Chair, an Easy Back to School Craft
To create this back to school craft, place a drop cloth under the work surface. Be sure to work in a well ventilated area. Use sandpaper to lightly sand the unfinished wood chair until it is free of any rough spots. Gently wipe off the dust. After all of the dust has been removed, coat the soon-to-be alphabet chair with one coat of primer. Be sure to carefully follow the manufacturer's instructions. Set the chair aside to dry.
Once the primer has dried completely for the time recommended by the manufacturer the alphabet chair is ready to paint. Paint the chair in the color you desire for the background color. Let the chair set aside to dry.
After the alphabet chair has dried completely, it is now ready to stamp with alphabet letters. Gently stamp an alphabet stamp in black or other paint color and test how the stamp transfers on a scrap piece of cardboard. If you are satisfied with the results, stamp the chair. You should be able to get 2 to 4 stamps before reapplying paint to the stamp surface. Continue using other letter stamps until the entire chair surface, legs and back are decorated with the letters of the alphabet. Let the paint dry completely.
After the alphabet chair has dried completely, it is ready to use and place in your child's room or homework area. Other variations of this fun and easy back to school craft include decorating an unfinished chair with the letter of your child's name or decorating with numbers. Have fun and be creative and this back to school craft will be one you and your child treasure for years to come.
