A back to school party is a great way to celebrate a new school year and say goodbye to the carefree days of summer. To help kids get excited about heading back to school, invite friends over to celebrate the last day of summer break together.

Back to School Party Game Ideas

Make this year's back to school party more fun than ever with these fun games. Perfect for kids of all ages, these game ideas work well for large and small groups of kids.

One fun game for a back to school party is a backpack race. Have teams set up on opposite sides about 100 yards apart. Each team should be made up of even groups of at least two people. Have enough backpacks on hand per team. The race starts out with one member of each team wearing a backpack stuffed full of books and other fun school supplies.

At the blow of a whistle, the first member in line of each team runs to their other team member. The backpack must be removed and worn by the new team member who then returns to the opposite end of the course. This is repeated until all team members have completed their section of the race. The winning team gets to pick prizes from the contents of the backpack.

Another fun back to school party game is a trivia game. The children should be set up into two or three teams. Each team should sit at a table with a bell or buzzer to hit when they are ready to answer the trivia question. A large pad of paper, dry erase board or chalk board can be used to keep track of each team's score.

An adult or older child reads the trivia questions to the teams. The first team to buzz in gets a chance to answer the questions. Each correct answer earns a team one point. The first team to reach 15 points wins. Let the winners of this fun back to school party game choose a prize from a basket full of basic school supplies like pencils, erasers, notebooks and locker magnets.

Back to School Party Snack Ideas

No back to school party is complete without some fun and great tasting snacks. Kids of all ages will appreciate back to school party snack with a school theme in mind. Snack theme ideas include cookies made in the shape of letters or numbers, a savory and sweet trail mix made with alphabet cereal, pretzels, raisins and small cheddar crackers, a fruit tray featuring strawberries, blueberries, apple slices and grapes, cheeses cut into fun geometric shapes and crackers. For beverages, consider serving 100% juice boxes, flavored waters or lemonade for guests to enjoy.

A back to school party is a great way to help kids reconnect with their friends and celebrate the excitement that every new school year brings. Make sure to take plenty of pictures at the back to school party so you can send copies to all of the party guests for them to use in their own school scrapbook. Keep the focus on fun and your back to school party will be a huge success.
