Back Scrubber Pattern to Crochet

Loofah or Bath Brush Too Abrasive? Make Your Own Back Scrubber

Marie Anne St. Jean
I'm not flexible enough to maneuver a washcloth to reach my whole back so a crocheted back scrubber used with both hands was a good solution. This back scrubber works up quickly so you'll want to make several. Make a coordinating washcloth from this Quick and Easy Dishcloth Pattern and tuck one into a basket with your favorite natural soap for gift giving or to keep in your guest bathroom.

Pattern Difficulty = Easy

Abbreviations:

Ch = chain
Sc = single crochet
Ss = slip stitch
St = stitch

This pattern is provided free and may not be sold. You may sell the items you make, but you may not sell the pattern. Feel free to share this pattern on your site or blog, but please link to this page - do not post the pattern itself.

Back Scrubber Pattern

With any kitchen cotton yarn and size G crochet hook, leave a tail of 3" or so and ch 37.
(tail will be used to secure ch for handle)

Row 1 - In back bump of chain, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 4 ch (5 sc), ch 1, turn
(remaining chain will be used for handle).

Increase Rows

Row 2 - increase one stitch in row by placing 2 sc in first st, sc across remaining, ch 1, turn (6 sc)
Rows 3-11 - repeat row 2 until you have a total of 15 sc, ch 1, turn

For pattern, work in back loop only except the first and last stitch of each row

Pattern Row - 2 dc in 1st st, * sk 2 sts, in BLO sc and 2 dc in same st, * repeating from * to * across, ending with 1 sc in last st, ch 2, turn

Repeat pattern row until piece measures approx 23" (without chain for handle), ch 1, turn.

Decrease Rows
Row 1 - sc across, ch 1, turn
Row 2 - sc dec in 1st 2 st, sc across, sc dec in last 2 st, ch 1, turn
(sc decrease: pull up loop in 1st and 2nd stitch, yo and pull through all 3 lps)

Repeat row 2 until there are 5 sc, ch 1 turn

Last Row - sc across, ss into same stitch as last sc, ch 30, ss to opposite end of last row to make handle. Leave a tail long enough to use with large needle to secure chain to last row for extra support.

Secure chains for handles on both ends of piece. Weave in ends.

    I googled bath scrubbies and found this on crochet pattern central. I love this pattern and am printing it up now. Thanks Marie Anne. These things cost a fortune in the store.. :)

    Love it ... off to crochet! Along this line, I have some free patterns on my blog: http://www.HandmadeByAnnabelle.Blogspot.com -- bath puff and crochet coasters.

    This was a great idea. I still haven't mastered the crochet hook, but thats another story.

    What a clever idea. Providing crocheted directions is not easy (I've been working on an article about this for several weeks and still am not happy with it). You did an excellet job, and the idea is so creative.

    Oh my gosh, what a great pattern! I'm a knitter who barely can crochet around the edges of my knitted items. I've been wanting to learn more about crocheting and this would be a great "first project" for me. Thanks so much, Marie! Fantastic!

    Great project idea! I happen to have some kitchen cotton yarn laying around, too.
