Back Yard Wedding Tips and Ideas

Melissa B
There are hundreds of places to get married today. Anywhere from the tradition Church to a far off distant vacation spot. Many people like the idea of a back yard wedding, but are afraid it will look too cheap and take too much work. back yard weddings can be convenient, cost efficient, and more comfortable for many couples. If you have been thinking of a back yard wedding, here are the basics:

1) Make Sure you Have Enough Yard Space to fit Enough Fold up Chairs for all Attending Guests.

You would be surprised at how many of those folding chairs you can fit in a relatively small space, but it is still good to make sure everyone will have a comfortable seat at your weeding. Also, a good tip would be to ask ask your church or local community church if you may use their fold up chairs. many church's have hundreds of chairs that they use for various events. Some may ask for a donation to "rent" the chairs, and other's would be happy to lend them to you for free. The last thing you want to buy is 200 chairs that have no place to go when the wedding is over!

2) Decide on a Menu and Get an Idea for Catering or Home Cooking Costs.

While no bride wants to make Steak for all of the guests at her wedding, the father of the bride may be thrilled to do so! Ask around and see if you can manage to get some friends and family members to bring prepared meals to tour wedding. Since the wedding will take place in your backyard, it makes it possible for "home cooking" If you don't want to bother them, start getting catering costs together, as they can vary greatly from one company to another.

3) Make Sure You Pastor is Comfortable Doing a Back Yard Wedding.

Most Pastors would have no objection to doing a wedding in a back yard, but other's may be surprised that you are not holding the ceremony at the Church. Some people may choose to get a local Mayor to preform the ceremony. Most mayors are very comfortable with back yard weddings, but if you are intent on a Pastor, do be sure to discuss the matter and consider his religious convictions. Some couples even have a Mayor preform the ceremony, and later get a Pastor to Bless the Marriage. You need to decide what it most important for you and your soon to be spouse.

4) Tables!

You should have a few tables and not just for eating. You will need a table for all the gifts to be displayed, as well as tables for eating and displaying food and drinks. It may also be necessary to have a specific table just for the Husband and Wife, all decked out for the two. This especially comes in hand when they smash cake in each others face!

5) Plan For Bad Weather

Having a back yard wedding means there is always a chance for rain and yucky weather. While you can't cancel the wedding the morning of due to weather, you can be sure to have things prepared for the "in case" scenario. Be sure to have tarps over the tables. this also adds shade on a hot summer day! If you have an enclosed porch, be sure to utilize it. Scope your yard and see where you can add little accommodations in case the weather just doesn't cooperate.

There is a lot of things that have to be done to prepare for any wedding, but planning a back yard wedding gives you more flexibility than renting a hall or heck, flying your friends and family to the Cancun! Well, it's definitely cheaper than that! No matter the type of wedding you choose, be sure you have disposable cameras at every table, at least one digital camera, a video recorder and lots of beautiful decorations. Oh and let's not forget, have a wonderful time!
