Personally, I have enjoyed several backpacking trips in the Grand Canyon during the summer. Instead of paying ridiculous hotel prices and dinners at expensive restaurants with all the people and traffic, I decided to give a backpacking outing a try. And was I ever glad I did! I was able to see parts of the Grand Canyon that very few others are able to. I was able to take my time and enjoy all aspects of what nature has to offer. Best of all, I didn't have to take out a second mortgage to do it. It cost only a small fraction of what a conventional vacation would have cost.
There are numerous backpacking websites on the Internet that can give you information on everything to do with backpacking. There are forums that are exclusively designed for those who love the hiking and backpacking. You can talk to others just like yourself and share information and new destinations with. These are people who have been there and have firsthand experience, not a brochure with a few pictures.
You will find sites that offer tips and tricks on what to take with you. Items such as compasses, cell phone, flashlights, waterproof matches, additional food and clothing, etc. That is the thing about backpacking; you never know what you might run into. The key is to be prepared for what may come your way. You can have face to face encounters with wild animals, or any number of possible accidents. While no one wants to have something like that happen to them, you also do not want to be unprepared in the event something does go wrong.
By simply following some simple tips and guidelines you can have the time of your life backpacking anywhere in this beautiful country of ours. If you are looking for something different that is both fun and exciting, I would urge you to seriously consider backpacking as a way of getting away from it all.
