In my case, I tried to help a man and woman who were down and out. They were both in their late fifties and suffered various health problems. I took them under my wing and taught them how to earn a good living doing what I was doing.
As it turned out, once they learned all they needed to know they double-crossed me by going behind my back to get a location that I had been trying to get for several months. I had intended to give them my location once I got the new one. But instead of being grateful for the generosity I offered them, they stabbed me in the back.
It was very difficult for me at first. I felt betrayed by them of course but more than that I felt let down by God. Then I read: "The disciple is not above his master, nor the servant above his lord." (Matt. 10:24) "Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf." (1Peter 4:16)
Backstabbers are all around us and we never know who they are until they have already stabbed us in the back. I've known others who were victims of backstabbers and their stories are just as bad as or maybe even worse than mine.
The Bible tells of a future time when no one will be able to trust even the members of their own family. From what we see on the daily news and experience in our places of employment, it appears as if that time, which is commonly referred to as the last days, is now.
"But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!" (2Tim.3:1-5)
Sound familiar?
If we are indeed living in the last days it will only get worse until the Lord of Glory, Jesus Christ, is revealed from heaven. Those who belong to Him will rejoice but those who don't know him will be absolutely terrified and rightly so.
Abide in Christ and trust no one but Him and those who abide in Him with you. Backstabbers are a mere annoyance compared to the wickedness of the people who will be alive in the last days.
