Backstreet Boys - Millennium: Review from a Boy Band Fan

Nicole Forst
The 1990's were a time of great musical diversity, but I am going to write about my favorite boy band from the 1990's The Backstreet Boys. In 1999 they released the album Millennium which sold 1.134 million copies in the first week. At that time it had shattered all previous records for one week sales by SoundScan. It was eventually surpassed by other pop acts Britney Spears and 'N SYNC.

The albums first single "I Want It That Way" shot up the Billboard Hot 100 chart and the Adult Contemporary Charts. The following singles, "Larger Than Life", "Show Me the Meaning of Being Lonely", and "The One" also placed on the Billboard Hot 100.

The songs off this album were poppy and infectious. If you heard the song once, it was stuck in your head the rest of the day. Being in high school when this album came out a lot of days were spent before football games on Friday nights listening to BSB with my friends.

For the time period in the era of boy bands this was one of the best albums made. To this day it has gone 13 times platinum. 13 million albums in 10 years, this album has staying power.

The time of boy bands may have come and gone but the Backstreet Boys are still releasing albums and touring to this day. Millennium may have been their best album but you still have to respect them for continuing to make music for the fans that have grown up with them.
