Address Book
An address book can store important names, phone numbers, and email addresses. This book can be kept near your home telephone or in a desk or kitchen drawer. Among the telephone numbers you might choose to include in the address book are the following: the school office, the nurse's office, and some of the parents in your child's class.
If your child's teacher would like to communicate via email, make sure that you include their email address along with any other email addresses you might need.
Bulletin Board
Bulletin boards come in various styles and sizes and can be placed in whatever room you feel is best. A bulletin board can be used to display the paperwork that your child will bring home from school. Some of what you might want to have visible includes the school lunch menu, monthly school calendar and your child's various assignments and tests.
Pens, Pencils, and Erasers
It would be a good idea to keep an extra pack or two of pens and pencils along with an eraser or two in a desk or kitchen drawer, where you can easily access them. They will be helpful when you need to write notes, help your child with their homework, etc.
Stationery
Inexpensive stationery or notepaper can be used either to write absence or other notes to your child's teacher. Having stationery readily available eliminates the need to search for paper to write the various notes to send to school with your child. Stationery can also be kept in a kitchen or desk drawer.
Weekly or Daily Planner
Either type of planner is a good place to keep track of what is going on in school. You can write down important dates pertaining to school activities, including parent teacher conferences, school holidays, etc. in your planner.
Desk Pad Calendar
If the two planners listed above are too small and you prefer to write down the various school activities on something larger, a desk pad calendar is a good idea.
Journal or Notebook
You can use either of these to jot down notes or reminders pertaining to your child's assignments, school or after school activities, etc. If you would like to carry the journal or notebook around with you, office supply and discount department stores carry these essentials in smaller sizes so that they can fit into a briefcase, pocketbook, tote bag, etc.
