Backyard Camping Adventure

Kevin Nurmi
If there is one memory I will always cherish from my childhood, it was the backyard camp outs. We would prepare all day for our night outside. Then, we would set up our tents and sleeping bags, make a fire pit, and set up all of our supplies. When night came, we would sit around a campfire singing songs, and looking up at that big Alaskan sky. No campground I have ever been to could compare to my own backyard.

If you are looking for something fun to do with your family, you may need to look no further then your own backyard. Many Americans pay a lot of money to be able to spend a weekend in the great outdoors. However, they often end up right next to another family or two, often annoyed at the noise they make, have to leave their pets behind, and never really get the chance to bond with their own family. Camping in your backyard is a great way to accomplish everything you want to do without ever having to pay a dime or leave the comfort of your home.

All you need to accomplish this family fun night are some basic supplies. Grab a tent or two and set them up anywhere you want in your yard. You should be sure and have pillows and sleeping bags for everyone. You can then find some way to create a safe fire in your backyard, either with a fire pit or a chimenea. Buying graham crackers, chocolate, and marshmallows can turn your backyard adventure into a true cookout if you make s'mores. Grab some lanterns, and plan some family friendly activities. Make a promise to yourselves that you will not bail out and head inside in the middle of the night. Sing some campfire songs or tell scary ghost stories and make the night your own special way to bond. Camping in your backyard is a very safe way to camp. You do not have to worry about who may be around you, or what wildlife could come into your camp in the middle of the night. Another great advantage to camping in your backyard is the hassle free travel. You no longer have to double check and triple check your list of things to bring. There is no car ride that lasts hours and tires everyone out before they even get to the campsite. That also means you save on gas! You can bring whatever pets you would like, and enjoy the time outside.

Camping out in your backyard can be a very nice alternative to leaving your home for a campsite. You have the advantage of a no-travel vacation, a great way to spend time with your family, and a fall back plan in case it rains! There are no downsides to camping out in your own backyard. So set up your tent and give it a try this weekend!
