Backyard Cornhole: The Ultimate Summer Outdoor Game

B Fahey
Cornhole is more than just a bean bag toss game. Invented in Cincinnati, Ohio, it is the best backyard activity since lawn darts and Bocce ball were invented. More like a modern day horse shoe match, a Cornhole set consists of two wooden boards set up at an angle with a small hole in the surface and 8 square cloth bags filled with dried corn.

The game is played by two teams with two players each. One player from each team stands at each board. Simply stand across the yard from your board, and toss your corn bag. The players at one board alternate throwing until all 8 bags have been thrown. Go for the hole-in-one or try to knock your opponent's bag off the board. You can score one point for sticking your bag on the board, and three points for a ringer right into the hole.

Best paired with a grill-out and a cold beer, Cornhole can be played by anyone at the party or can be played in a competitive tournament. The American Cornhole Association website is the perfect place to find someone who sells the game set. It's not difficult to make your own boards and bags either, you can spend a Saturday afternoon DIY project making a Cornhole set - just download the specifications to make your own Cornhole boards.

Cornhole is easy to learn and addictive. Whether you have an athletic, laser-accurate arm, or you throw like a girl - you will enjoy this game. This game is appropriate for families with kids or adult parties and both men and women alike. You can even mix kids and adults on the same Cornhole team and spend quality outdoor time together.

Cornhole is being played at summer festivals, fraternity parties, family birthday parties, vacation resort activity areas, and backyards all over the country.

Many Cornhole boards and bags are decorated with sports teams or fun designs. You can even find a smaller scale Cornhole to play indoors or in a cramped space. For $100 or less, an investment in your backyard Cornhole set will keep you and your friends competing all summer long.

Never heard of Cornhole? Oh yes, it is certainly real. You can even check out Cornhole The Movie. This game is hot in Cincinnati and has been spreading throughout the Midwest and the rest of the country quickly. Introduce it to your friends and be the hit of the neighborhood barbeque. What are you waiting for?
