Backyard Summer Amusement

If your children are particularly energetic you might consider getting a trampoline for them to jump on. It's great exercise for people of all ages and it's fun for grown ups or kids. Make sure you get one with a net for safety. This goes around the trampoline to keep kids from falling off. Wal-Mart has a family sized trampoline for $270 and the net is included in the package. Happy jumping.

Volley ball nets are inexpensive and if your family enjoys the game, you'll be providing hours of summer fun.

Horse Shoes will help your child with hand eye coordination and adults will also want to play. Invest in the metal kind you can leave outside. They're under thirty bucks and worth it.

For preteen and teenage kids consider building a skateboard ramp. You'll need helmets and knee pads.

An above ground pool or even a wading pool provides great fun in keeping children cool during the summer months. Depending on your budget you can choose from simple to sophisticated. The more expensive pools come with thirty year plus guarantees making this a worthwhile investment.

Smaller yard toys are fine. However, you may find you're better off putting money into one nice swing set or other single yard toy such as a playhouse, because children can get a lot out of a larger item. Swing sets provide different types of play from sea saw to swing to built in clubhouse. Yet, don't think you have to go all out if it's not in your budget. A simple swing set will do. Also, keep your eyes open to see if anyone's giving their's away and check ads in the paper for bargains. If you get one second hand just be sure to take care of any needed repairs.

This is true even if you buy new. You'll likely need to periodically examine your swing set for safety purposes. Race ya to the slides!

A sand box is still a good idea even though little boys will dig anywhere.

Smaller toys you may consider include a soccer ball, skates, jump ropes, bubbles, bug catching kit, and sidewalk chalk.

All of the above toys in one variety or the other can be purchased at Wal-Mart with the exception of the skateboard ramp.
