I myself have completed over nine hours filling out online applications. One thing that bugs me about this tremendously is the questionnaire. Does my political view really matter? I applied online at Target, there were signs all over the door saying "Now Hiring" I thought good I asked for an application they said go online. So I got home and then spent forty five minutes online filling out the application. There is a big questionnaire asking the most absurd questions. One of them was if I think that politicians lie, well I thought to myself "how in the world would I know". Sure most seem too, but to make the assumption that all do would be wrong, so I answered no. There were other questions like " did you skip school ever, or " have you ever lied to anyone else". I'm thinking hmm, how do I answer this one; of course I have told a lie or two in my life and yes I skipped school a few times to go to the movies when I was a teen. That was over fourteen years ago, am I really going to pay for that now. So I was unsure how to answer those questions as well as most of the questions that were asked of me.
Another thing they wanted to know was your welfare status; apparently they are quicker to hire you if you need to get off welfare. There is a whole questionnaire on that as well. If you have a welfare case number you get a job quicker than those who do not. This frustrated me even more. Should I go and get me some welfare checks and my own case number so I can have better luck in getting a job? This is ridiculous.
Well three days after turning in the application on my computer I received a little e-mail saying "SORRY, we have no open positions for you" oh well bummer. A week later I went to the store and saw the signs still there saying that they were still hiring. So what was it that cost me that interview? was it the way I answered the political question? or maybe the missing case number? Who knows why, I sure don't.
Back in the good old days before the computer application process it was quite a lot easier to get a job, at least for me. I am well dressed, easy to talk to, mild mannered, and drug free and I have gotten every single job that I ever had an interview for problem is I can't get an interview now. I am not the only one with this problem either, many people are in the same boat as me and it feels as though we are all drowning. The economy is horrible but what is worse is this horrible process of wasting time filling out applications for jobs that most of us use to feel are beneath us but nothing is beneath us at this point and a job any job sounds wonderful. Maybe if they brought back the paper application where you went in handed it over and if you were serious you talked to a manager then and there. They see you, see that you are serious and mark that application for an interview call if one was not offered right then and there. Now, you are nothing but a name on the computer, good luck with that.
