Punctuality
In certain business settings, being on time is a major factor in terms of overall reputation. This is particularly true when people are starting out in a new position. If a person is consistently late, this may convey to the organization that they are not necessarily serious about their job or committed to the company. Granted, life happens every once in a while, but if tardiness becomes a habit, it may shape the reputation of the individual.
Communication
People like to be informed of what is going on in the workplace. If individuals do not convey information on a regular basis, this can start to frustrate those individuals who rely on particular data to get them through the day. Those workers who "forget" to communicate or are a bit disorganized may find themselves in a position where they are scrutinized for their lack of information distribution.
Dependability
In a business setting, it can be extremely important to build a reputation of dependability. When people are assigned certain projects, there is an expectation that they will get them done in a timely manner and with a particular level of quality. Sometimes people demonstrate that they cannot be trusted with certain types of work. Over time, this can cause certain people to remain in lower-level positions, due to their inability to perform well.
Attitude
Finally, there is the issue of demeanor and approach to work, which people often summarize as attitude. There are times to be tenacious in one's work, and certain situations can give rise to particular emotions. However, if someone develops a reputation of being hard to work with, it may negatively affect the career path. There are individuals who believe that their talent will make up for a difficult attitude. In some cases this may be true, but in many situations people want to work with individuals who are pleasant to be around.
Overall, people have to be aware that their habits can impact their reputation and cause individuals to see them in a certain light, even if they desire to be viewed a different way. Once a reputation is established, it may be difficult to change. Therefore, people must monitor their bad habits and realize that those habits may ultimately be bad for business.
