Bad Luck at Airports

Cathy Pelekakis
Cannot believe my luck....

I have no idea why, but whenever I plan on a vacation something, something always happens to throw a monkey wrench into my plans. Two years ago we went to Bahamas, when we were minutes from boarding our plane in Baltimore my son Rob fell to his knees doubled over in pain, he was in the midst of a kidney stone attack. So instead of going on the plane we were in the emergency room. Thank God for insurance because we were lucky enough to reschedule the trip for a later date.

Then at Christmas I was planning to visit my brother in Shreveport, LA. Being a good Mom I wanted to make sure that everything was cleaned before I left, so I decided to do one more load of laundry. We have two small dogs, Missy our puppy loves to leave her toys all over the house. I swear it is like having a two year old again. Anyway I was coming down the stairs with the laundry basket, and stepped on her toy. I fell down eight steps with sheets, towels and an assortment of dirty laundry laying around me. Missy thought it was time to play, so she climbed up on my chest, dumb dog she is lucky she is still alive. I broke my ankle in three places and went to Shreveport in a cast and crutches.

Then last year when we where in Aruba, Rob introduced me to the Twilight series, and made fun of me while I was engrossed in the essence of Edward Cullen. He even made my husband jealous when we returned home with comments about how I spent the week with Edward Cullen. Had to spend a week explaining why I fell in love with a fictional character.

So this year I had all my plans set up to go to the Atlantis hotel. I was ready to go, I remembered all the mishaps that had forsaken me for the last few years. And with a determination that nothing, nothing at all was going to go wrong I left for the airport.

I parked my car, had my passport in hand, baggage was checked, ready to go. No such luck. I swear someone has it out for me. There I was standing by the Starbucks to get a coffee, when this guy comes barreling through the airport, he runs straight into me, toppling me over coffee spilling in all directions. Reflexes coming to the surface, I place my left arm behind me to stop the fall, I broke my wrist. I didn't get on the plane. I was again in an emergency room waiting to be seen. My vacation was delayed for a few days, called my travel agent he could not believe this was happening to me again. I went anyway with my wrist in a cast and a sling, at least I had one good arm to bring the much needed alcoholic beverages to my lips.

Next year I am not even going to try to leave by plane, I am going to go on a cruise and hope and pray that the boat isn't attacked by pirates or sinks....

I'm sorry, but I had a good laugh after reading this! You have not had much joy while getting ready to go away on holiday, have you? The worst I've ever encountered is a cancelled flight due to mechanical problems (announced right before boarding) and postponed flights due to adverse weather conditions.

You seem to have my luck, if you haven't already take a look at my story-my unplanned tour of the St. Louis hotel. This year me and some friends are heading back to St. Louis on Sept. 11, already there is turmoil. Who knows if we will make it.

If some people didn't have bad luck ...... I solve this problem by not flying.
