Bahamian Immigration Minister Shane Gibson Resigns Over Rumors of Relationship with Anna Nicole Smith

NASSAU, Bahamas (AC) - - In what seems like an everlasting soap opera that revolves around Anna Nicole Smith even after her death on February 8^th 2007, it is being reported that Bahamian Immigration Minister Shane Gibson has resigned because of all the questions, rumors and "vicious lies" surrounding the nature of his relationship with Anna Nichole Smith.

A Bahamas newspaper recently published photographs showing Anna Nicole Smith and the Immigration Minister in bed, both of which were fully clothed and showed Gibson embracing her. Reports first revealed that they were merely friends he was visiting her on her birthday. Rumors have been flying around the Internet that the two were actually sleeping together.

These photographs fired up a controversy because it appeared that Gibson had expedited Smith's application for permanent residency in the Bahamas. People are inquiring if having sex with the Immigration Minister was in exchange for her receiving her permanent resident status so quickly.

Cassius Stuart, leader of the Bahamas Democratic Movement, said Gibson has "shamed" the Bahamas and called for him to resign.

Gibson said on state television he wanted to apologize to all persons who may in any way have been offended by anything that he said, did, or was perceived to have said or done.

Smith had claimed ownership of a mansion in the Bahamas on her application for permanent residency in the Bahamas last year. There is an ongoing dispute of the real ownership of this property and a developer from South Carolina is claiming he only let Smith borrow the home and never transferred ownership to her. Smith's lawyers are claiming that she received the mansion as a gift.

Prime Minister Perry Christie states that he has accepted Gibbon's resignation and said on TV that however sad Shane's decision to resign may be, that he also believes, as does he that it is the correct course of action for him to take regarding all of the circumstances.

Although Gibson was stepping down, he denied any wrongdoing in Smith's residency case. He also said he was the victim of "vicious and wicked lies.''

Gibson unconditionally denies that he has ever abused his ministerial office by granting former Playboy Playmate, Anna Nicole Smith any permit of which she was undeserving or for which she was not qualified under the laws of the Bahamas.

The news of Gibson's resignation is quickly spreading throughout the Internet and media and one can only speculate that the controversy will grow even bigger now and the rumors more vicious.

It is possible that an intense investigation will be conducted into his actions while he served as the Bahamian Immigration Minister.
